This one was made by Joseph Westby and has the name of a steel maker on the blade. Perhaps it was an promotional item or a special gift made for an executive. The metal bit at the end is a little unusual. It slides in and out but doesn't seem to do anything
. Then I recently saw another old smokers knife that had a fold-out tamper. Just a hypothesis, but once there may have been a disc that swivelled. When the metal bit is in the position shown in the photo, the disc would have extended across the butt of the knife. Not sure if that made sense or if I am even on the right track. It could be for some other attachment or maybe a locking mechanism of sorts. If the latter, it doesn't work. Hopefully, someone will be able to help. Thanks in advance.
