Texturing Micarta Scales

Any advice on texturing Micarta? I just received a new RC-4 and the scales are a little to smooth for me. They don't have to be perfect just functional without being cheesy. I have access to a variety of files, grinders, chisels and of course my trusty Dremel.

You can "rough-up" the micarta by sanding it with some coarse sandpaper. It's not as intensive as adding grooves with a file, but it definitely allows for a better grip. I believe RAT Cutlery uses canvas micarta on their lineup so the you should try the sandpaper method first to see how you like it. If you want more then you can always do some file work.

Thanks for the advice. Micarta was actually easier to work with than I thoughgt it would be. I achieved a cross hatch effect using 50 grit paper. It feels much better in the hand. I work with Corian on occasion and Micarta responds to tooling in a very similar manner.
