Anyone, any experience with the kukri from Traditional Filipino Weapons? Thanks! (Even though, technically, this is a big knife...hopefully the question is allowed here.)

Thanks. There are...yet they focus on antiques, from what I've seen so far.

[L.E. But, seeing that somehow I missed the forum you linked, I very much thank you.]

I wasn't able to find pretty much anything on the functionality of this piece but Ron's video.

I spoke to Ron about his kukri, he seemed confident that it would hold up to being used in ways other than as a weapon. I was very clear about my intent with it and he was very confident on the capability of his product and its durability, still I personally haven't found anything online showing one being used extensively. I was hoping someone here had tested one. When I spoke to Ron I explained to him what I wanted it for and asked if he would mind me reviewing it and posting the results online and I really liked his answer which was " That would be great, I have never asked anyone to do that if you do please let me know so I can post the results in my facebook page" To me it seems like he feels confident with their durability. In a nut shell it boils down to paying $265 (that's with shipping) to test it, this week I bought the Voyager hawk from 2Hawks but I'm still considering buying TWF kukri in the near future and reviewing it. I'm just hoping someone does it first :)

Check out the Himalayan Imports sub forum here for authentic Nepali made khuks. Good stuff and some great service. They often have a "Deal of the Day"-KV

Oh, haven't checked this thread in ages. I bought a Cold SteelGurkha Kukri and a BK 21 during my visit to US. But still interested if by any chance you get this one. Please keep me updated!

Well, HI does have excellent service, I'll give them that. It is an understatement, in fact, to say so.

But the fact that I am buying today what many call "KLO"s after having had 3 HI and yet another traditional kukri, will tell you that it is doubtful I will ever buy another one. I was in your place for a while, so I appreciate your suggestion, but then I stopped believing stuff when my personal experience contradicted it. I like my blades properly hardened at least in the sweet spot and not warped. For this I was called many ways and told I don't appreciate "character" in a blade :) by fans.

The older kamis may have done a much better work than the current ones. You may have been exposed to their work. Thing is, I LOVE everything, nasty ring included :), in a traditional kukri. If anyone could guarantee that I can get a proper traditional kukri, I'd get one in a heart beat! But, otherwise, playing roulette from Europe, is no longer my thing. Even if I just got unlucky many many times in a row.

Tora is also a good source fro authentic Kukri, but they always seem to be only pre order when I look now.

I have two from them that I got in trade on the secondary market. They both required a LOT of work to be made serviceable-one had a massive twist to the blade that I had to straighten, (which was bloody festive-almost ripped my post vise off the wall) the other I actually had to reharden). YMMV.

Thanks, but for the same reasons, I'd stay clear of Tora as well. Just too much risk at the moment.
