Good day all, just bought a used (both knife and sheat appear in very good condition) Busse + sheat and thought i got a great deal. Now after some forum research i realize my new knife is in fact a TG and not the TGULB i thought and to booth, it's sr101 vs NFI steel.
Was it a good knife to start with? As the demise of busse SR101 made this more desirable now, or did i overpay . For price, keep it mind i'm in Canada and Busse knife are crazy (exchange, shipping, tax and custom) expansive here, but i probably could a bought a new TGULB for 300 ( i did say crazy) more than i paid for.

You thoughts Busse expert.

Hello,

If you are happy with what you got then it was a great deal.

No one will really give prices, as asking for them without a paid membership is against the rules.

Looks like you were able to do some research.

None of the original TG's were SR 101, they were all INFI.

the battle grade TG, TG-M, and TG Paul were SR 101 and the other A2 special editions were not INFI but made with A2 steel.

Original TG, TGLB, Special Blade show edition TG 14 , TG crusader and TGULB are all INFI , with some custom shop versions out there.

Thanks for the reply, well i was feeling good at first, but in light of my finding, i was not sure anymore....

As for the price i was careful about not giving specific on my end (let me know if i must edit), just some context from a Canadian perspective. I'm not so much looking for a price/value on my purchase as more of a validation i did not make a bad buy after realizing it was a TG SR101.

No need to edit. You are good.

you can see where "did I get a good deal" validation is a little like asking current pricing when adding things like "As the demise of busse SR101 made this more desirable now"

No worries.

If you pay for a membership, it is so much more than being able to search things and ask pricing.

google Battle Grade Team Gemini and you can see what they sold for new.

In answer to your question;

Yes it is a good blade to start with, regardless of what you paid or deal you got. any TG variant is great. beat on it and you will see.

I’ll add my 2 cents…

The TG variants are all excellent. You did great by getting one! My favorite happens to be the TGULB, but YMMV. I just happen to like thinner and more nimble blades, as I cut and slice more than I chop. However, aesthetically, the TG fullers look much nicer to my eyes, compared to the TGULB.

Regarding INFI vs SR-101, that’s a toss up. Depending on your use, they have different properties, and I don’t always prefer INFI over SR-101. INFI is tougher and takes a strop nicely. Practically bomb-proof. However, in my experience, SR-101 takes a keener edge and keeps that edge better than INFI. Still tough as nails, but INFI just takes it to the next level.

I have plenty of SR-101 in other Bussekin models, and am very happy with them.

Congrats on your Battle Grade TG score!

Thanks, i appreciate your 2 cents ;)!
I remember reading on here a few good comments about the SR-101 when they said their machine broke. But since my stable of busse is still pretty limited, i don't have much experience yet. I guess this one will not be a dedicated chopper, so i should be fine then.

Welcome to the illness….
i know, that's exactly what happened here. I always do busse search on my local gun/knife market website, when this one popped, i was so excited i had to snatch it... Arrg the Busse fever :)

No known cure other than empty wallet

The trick to saving 100+ when ordering is ask politely when you order from busse to ship Usps/Canada post. Ups will gouge you with brokerage fees based on the claimed value of the blade where Canada post charges nothing.

I almost bought an SR101 TGLB just the other day. My current financial situation got the best of me and caused me to rethink that. However, if I had, I wouldn't have regretted it a bit.

People make a big deal out of INFI...and rightfully so. Despite that, that SR101 is no slouch.

Here's my advice if you find yourself worrying about some kinda' "inferiority" situation with the SR101...

Don't...

By no means is SR-101 unfit for chopping! Go ahead and chop away! I still remember the Swamp Rat demonstration of either the Waki or Rucki slicing paper after chopping down a small tree. SR-101 can chop without a doubt!

My comment about preferring slicers over choppers is just one reference point about my preference for the TGULB’s thinness over the TG. It wasn’t meant as a comment about SR-101 not being good choppers.
