TGLB Edge Bevels... What do you run and why?

If this need to be in maintanence, that's fine. I'm just after real-world stuff and not the often-philosophical debates that the maintanence forum bring out.

That being said, thanks to a forumite, I am now in the Busse club!

My jungle green and black/green G10 TLGB is much more "girthy" than any knife I've ever owned. My second largest knife, a Benchmade 140, sees a 40 degree inclusive edge that I keep polished. However, I threw my Lansky system on the TGLB (it barely fit) and found that it has a 60+ degree bevel. This knife will be a hard-use camp knife/end of the world savior, but I still expect it to cut fairly well.

What do you run your larger Busse's at and why?

Here's my Busse making my 140 look childish:

i'm no expert but im thinking you may be getting that large angle because its a convex grind? just an idea. i'm also interested in hearing some thoughts since im looking to sharpen my tglb

The TGLB, at least mine, is not convex. I have still not modified factory sharpness. If you plan to cut through car hoods, keep the 60+ degree inclusive. Garth once told me that they use a 22.5 degree angle on a SAR3 that I was ordering from the custom shop. He also offered to make it steeper. I'm sure your TGLB could support a 40 degree inclusive. The question is do you want it to? If you are intent on bringing it down, you can try 25? It's easier to keep it thicker than to make it thicker again once it is thin.

There was a member here, BePrepared, who I believe brought his TGLB down really low and then absolutely abused the heck out of it - requiring a spa visit to repair the thing to like-new. So don't be afraid. Although every steel and HT and blade geometry is obviously different - I try to keep 50 on real hard users, and 35-40 on really a majority of everything else that I own, including things that I would consider moderately hard users.

I took mine to a 50 degree inclusive on the edge pro. Love it now. It was definitely thicker than that before, so 60 degrees is believeable.

Would it be possible to get a picture of your blade? 50 seems like a good idea, I just need to see how much material I would have to take off. I also need to invest in an Edge Pro, as my collection is outgrowing my tired old Lansky.

Here ya go. I actually sharpened it at 48 degrees on the edge pro all the way to the 3000 grit polish tapes, then finished with a few passes on the lansky V stones at 50 degrees.
