TGLB factory edge grind angle question.

Hi guys,

As I am retarded :stupid: and need to use a guided angle sharpening system (Lansky in my case, although I am thinking of getting a wicked edge), I just wondered what the factory standard angle grind is on a TGLB. I probably wont need to sharpen it that much as it won't get super-heavy use, I dare say a strop will suffice most of the time, but it would be nice to know just for reference.

I also have a Lansky croc stick system that I carry in the field, which has a 25 degree and a 20 degree (per side) angle setting, which i suppose is an intermediate between a strop and a proper stone, in that it can quickly touch up an edge to decent sharpness, if a little toothy, but certainly enough to be getting on with (my Falkniven A1 can slice phone book paper after 20 or so passes on the croc sticks, even from fairly dull). It would be great if the TGLB had a 20 or a 25 degree grind as standard, because then I could just maintain the edge with that.

Thanks for your help guys!

I just placed an order for a tglb 3 weeks ago and asked if they could do a v grind edge on it but they replied that they only do convex edges. I am in the same boat as you and use a lansky so I will have to make a v grind edge once I get it. I guess that means that we would have to reset the angle with our sharpeners. Not a big deal for me though since sharpening my knives is half the fun:p

Here is a link to the sharpening thread guys, should be some useful info for you in there. Also, feel free to ask questions in the thread and i will try to answer as best i can next time i'm sober :D or someone else will beat me to it.

All the TGLB's i have seen has pretty much had a v edge on them.

Here is a pic of the TGLB profile before the put the final edge on it.

Mine have all had v grinds, done by hand so about 20 to 25 degrees a side. You should have no problem sharpening it on a Lansky or wicked edge or free hand for that. Its really not hard to do.

Ah, that's good to hear. as long as it's somewhere in between those two angles I'll be fine. I'm not after a hair-whittler here.

Mine was pretty easy to take from decently sharp from the shop to hair whittling sharp, i just free handed it on a dmt duo fold fine until the marks from the belt were gone and then stropped it and its a razor.

Yeeeeeaah, I can't...do that...you're forgetting, I'm retarded.

Honest to goodness you should learn its really not hard or some esoteric skill. Just take the cheapest crappy knife you own and a dmt coarse fine duo fold and practice, use a sharpy on the edge so you get visual feedback on how your holding the edge it won't take long before your hands know what angle to match. Its a great skill to learn and makes all the expensive systems unneeded.

You know what? Screw it. I will get my dad's old oil stone and an Opinel and have a go. I'll let you know how I get on.

BTW, thanks for reminding me about the sharpie thing, I'd forgotten about that.
