TGLB vs NMFSH camp knife

Before people chime in with "both", I'll have you know I already own both. I'm seeing what people's opinions are on the two as a "big" camp knife for chopping wood and such. Obviously the NMFSH is going to be the better chopper, but as these will be used for backpacking, weight is a huge issue. I was really leaning towards the NMFSH, however when combined with the "small" camp knife, the TGLB looks perfect.

Boy that's a tough choice, both being great knives. I know if it was me and I was carrying a small blade. I'd probably grab my NMFSH before my TGLB. I just feel the TGLB is a medium size knife, but it's great cause it can do it all. But I'm already carrying a small blade so I'd bring the beast NMFSH for everything else :) I would feel it's worth it's extra weight carrying it, for the performance it will give.
But who am I kidding, leave the TGLB behind lol, I'd be carrying all three !! AMS, TGLB, NMFSH :) I tend to pack the kitchen sink lol :) All just my 2 cents worth :)

I would lean toward the TGLB alone or the NMFSH along with a small blade. The later does seem a little counter intuitive I know but the TG is a bit of a jack of all while the two blade combo gives you the best of both. Of course I always have a small'ish folder with me as well.

Andy :D

TGLB for me. ( I also have both :) )

I own both and would choose the TGLB if I wasn't going to do a lot of chopping. If say I thought it would be colder at night and would be stoking a fire for the evening, then the NMFSH is coming along. If mostly moving through the woods and making just cooking fires or a few poles for a tarp shelter then definitely lighten up the load with the TGLB :)

Go half way! Get DSF, you'll get a half way blade size in a relatively light package... :D

Imagine TGLB piggybacked to ASHBM and AMS piggybacked to that combo for the really small jobs... Who said you need to backpack lightly? ;)

NMFSH! It is such a versatile tool. Mine came from the shop with superior cutting geometry and it has much more power as a chopper. I have both and have never selected the TGLB over it.
Furthermore, it looks siiiiiiiiick. :D

"big" = battle mistress. lol jk.

What handle is that? Tan canvas? Lighting is a bit weird but looks great in those kydex sheaths.

Tan canvas. Slightly darker than the "brown" that came with the survive, but it'll darken up with use. The combo looks great, much better in person than in that picture.

For me the TG has the ability to do everything fine but not the best chopper while the NMFSH is a bit large to do smaller tasks. If I was already set on taking a smaller knife with me then I would go with the NMFSH so I had something that really chops.

I've got to agree with garth on this one. if your going to have a smaller blade for the detail work I'd go with the NMFSH it will be better for chopping than the TGLB

Between the two, I would pick the TGLB as a camp knife. The smaller size makes it more versatile. However, I always seem to find my SAR6 with me when out in the woods. I thinks its the best all around camp knife. Not too big, not too small, and excellent blade geometry.

BTW I own all 3, many other Busses and Bussekin

The world would be a much better place if we didn't have to make decisions like this. I guess I would just play the eenie meenie miney mo game.
