I recently lost my carbon fiber Spyderco Caly3; or, more accurately, USPS lost it. (Previously posted here.) It was my first Father's Day present and I was distraught.

Easily overlooked in that original thread was the reply from thaeffman. He offered to put up his Caly3 for adoption. In other words, "Hey, I have a Caly3 I'm not going to be using, you can have it." Complete stranger. Free. No strings. You want it? It's yours.

Furthermore, unbeknownst to me at the time, thaeffman is in Canada. When I received the package, I noticed he paid over $36 just to ship it to me.

I could wax poetic about the kindness of strangers, faith in mankind, the BF community, but this really speaks for itself. He friggin' gave me his Caly3!

What a great gift!

It took me most of my life to understand just how important the giving is, not just the receiving. I'm sure one day you'll see where you fit into helping someone else in need.

And here I was thinking how screwed humanity was. WE HAVE HOPE!!! All we need is about four billion more of you guys and we'll be in good shape. :)

You must have done a lot of good in your life..karma is paying you back now :). Make sure you send thaeffman a Christmas gift, I'm guessing it will be a knife :D

It was incredibly generous of thaeffman. I was having a few bad weeks, but that turned around quick.

I'm pretty certain I don't deserve it.

It isn't the first time we have seen generosity from strangers on this forum, and certainly won't be the last. thaeffman, cheers to you!

CalvinW,

I know the knife that was lost had great sentimental value. But considering the gesture, your replacement should also have great sentimental value.

thaeffman,

My hat goes off to you. Your kind gesture will surely come back to you when most needed. :)

My wife said the same thing! When I told her about the offer, I said how I was hesitant to accept it because it was initially a gift from my wife (and nominally my baby girl), and she should be the one to replace it so I can still claim it's a Father's Day present. But she said this is much better story/history behind the knife than she could offer.

Wow, thaeffman deserves a trophy or something for this one, very kind sir
