As some of you may know, I posted a first impressions of my Thamar Tin Chira from a DOTD a week or so back, and was in love. Beautiful fit and finish, though the edge was on the dull side, not much of a problem as a few strikes on a ceramic and it was good to go for work. This weekend I took it out for some standing on some standing and fallen brush from a few poplars and maples that I felled a few weeks back. The first several strikes were fine, but after a few mere minutes I noticed two fairly large chips appear in the edge, right in the sweet spot.
At this point I sent an email to auntie wondering if a refund/return or replacement was possible but I let curiosity get the best of me and I repro filed the edge (at risk of voiding the warrantee). I've not done extensive testing but it hasn't chipped out on some pine branch testing so it may be set. Below are photos of inside the chip, it seems like it flaked out more than chipped. Over hardened? Cold shut in the edge? The steel lookrd rather black on the inside of the chip.
As an aside the butt cap also came loose; and to you Skallagrim fans, no I didn't attempt to remove it to end my opponent rightly.
