..or I'd be broke now!! What is this, a blem blitzkrieg!? That WW II especially caught my eye. Please don't keep them coming Uncle Bill, I don't think I have the willpower to resist!

Actually, I really am serious, if I buy any kukhuris I'll be about completely broke. I'm living on my savings til I go to boot camp and I still have a month to go. Maybe after I sell my car...

:
Good luck with boot camp Roadrunner!!

There are two things too remember while you're there.

#1- When the D.I.'s are yelling like you're the stupidest person they ever met, they are speaking to the lowest denominator in the training camp and not you personally.

#2- Don't let the bastards wear you down.

Thanks for the advice Yvsa and the, uh, support from Uncle Bill.

But I suppose I may have misrepresented myself here. I'm going to Army basic training, not boot camp. But it'll still be tough I'm sure. I don't expect to have too many problems physically, I'm a pretty good athlete and my endurance is very good. Mentally I'll just be sure to keep Yvsa's advice in mind and remember that they can't touch you and the yelling is just that, yelling. I can deal with a little ringing in my ears. After I start getting paid you might notice a slight increase in my kukhuri purchases though. The Army pays a little better than Wal-Mart.

Roadrunner,

I'll pass on some advice that got me through Basic Training... and will complement Yvsa's advice too...

1.) Don't call attention to yourself for any reason

2.) Do what you are told, when you are told, as fast and as correctly as you can (which will satisfy rule #1 )

I violated rule # 1 by falling asleep while standing at the back of a classroom (to stay awake). Daygum classrooms were airconditioned, which I wasn't used to being in as we were housed in an old WWII dorm. To come in from a 100 degree San Antonio afternoon into a 70 degree airconditioned classroom was a sure fire way to make me sleepy...

Good luck!

Same deal Roadrunner, the one and the same.
And Alan is right on too.

I would also add Never Volunteer!!!
For Anything!!!

And when you clean your weapon for Guard Duty which you will have to do at least once the secret is to clean it and then rinse it in the dayumed near boiling water the US Army always seems to have. That will evaporate the water without rusting the rifle.
DO NOT OIL IT!!!
Take it for inspection and the D.I. will tell ou to go and put some oil on it, at leat that's the way it happened with me.
If you oil the weapon after cleaning it will inevitably draw dust and will never be clean enough.
I am speaking from experience here.

On the ride over to the guard's barrack's don't cross your legs. The polish on your boots will rub off and you won't make Super Numa.

But you might get to ride around in a jeep for guard duty, that's what happened to me.

I have fond memories of it all now, but at the time, well.........
