A little bit ago I ran into a situation where I was more than glad to have a knife on me. I heard one of the family cats yowling at the top of it's lungs like something had a hold of it big time. Once I figured out where it was coming from, I realized that the cat had gotten a couple of it's claws caught up in a pair of boxers that I had hanging on an indoor clothes rack to dry (one of the muti-level wooden ones). The claws were through both legs of the boxers (all four layers), so I couldn't just pull them off the rack to get the cat lose and I wasn't about to try to pull it's paw lose with my hands and risk getting my hand torn apart by the terrified cat that was twisting and thrashing with it's one leg caught trying to get free. To keep the cat from getting hurt and to free it, I ended up pulling out my Delica and cutting the boxers off the rack. The cat was able to get it's paw lose once they were cut down. I only ended up having to sacrifice a pair of easily replaced boxers, so it's more than worth it since the cat wasn't harmed at all and only traumatized. Really thankful I had a knife on me, not sure what would've happened if I didn't. Probably a trip to the vet to see about the cat's broken or otherwise injured leg.
