Prior to my participation in this forum, I likely would never have taken a file, dremel, or belt sander to a perfectly good knife. Don't get me wrong, I've reshaped some handles with file and sandpaper; but I'm talking about cutting away at steel.
Here's the short story - I purchased a nonBecker knife <Blasphemer! Sinner!> that I wanted to try; and, within seconds of having it in hand, knew I didn't like it. I set it aside, with the intent of posting in on the Exchange in attempt to recoup some $$. I gave it 2 weeks, and picked it up again. Just as bad - time to post it. Well, my camera battery was dead...I threw it in the charger, then my eye twitched or something. Next thing I knew, I was working away at the tang and scales, taking down the palm swell. From the guy that says most handles are too small, that's sort of surprising; but it dropped too low, and was just in the wrong place (not actually a palm swell).
It's at least usable now, though I may still take a little more off...if not, it needs just a little more finish work to look good as new.

To bring the content fully into Becker territory, here's a BK5 with newly applied Bocote, a just received BK4 (like most people seeing one in real life for the first time, it's a lot smaller than I expected), and the offending knife.

Nice scales on that 5.
The other one is BHK? it looks like.
The 4 takes some getting used to but is a very versatile knife when you know how.
Happy grinding!

I thought it was an Izula.

No blasphemy here, we are all knife nuts. You should see my knife locker....

Looks nice.

The handle is way too long to be an Izula, different blade shape too.

He said removing metal. And I've seen some impressive handle mods to the Izula and Necker that extended them with handle material.

Either way, it looks good.

ETA I see the BHK logo now. Thats what I get for posting 2 mins after I wake up......lmao

Hmmm - I typed a response earlier, but it isn't here. <shrug>

Good eye - BHK Busy Bee. It was absolutely awful in hand. It isn't "good" now; but it's better. My next day off will have me re-evaluating and tweaking...if I don't think it's a totally lost cause. I probably should have just posted it - once I'm done bastardizing the thing, it probably won't be fit for sale.

In the other thread, I stated that I bought TKC g10 scales for a different Becker when I ordered the 4. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea which one I'd planned to put them on. My guess would be the 9; but since I'll be playing with the Machax soon, I might as well put them on that

Hmmmmm - I came back to this thread to show the AFTER pic(s) of the BHK that I'd mentioned....and realized that the one I've been working on isn't the one I showed in the opening post.
Not sure if I have a BEFORE picture of this one; but I disliked it more than the one I showed. I'm going to check for pics...
**Edited to add**
Found it

What didn't I like about it?
The weird shape of the ricasso, the too long "guard", and the too small front finger space.

I don't really like the mini choil, but I didn't know what else I could do to fix that part. The guard has been shortened, and the finger space enlarged (and the micarta there reshaped). It does fit a whole lot better...it just looks a little funky. I'm thinking I'm probably not finished...but I've been using it a bit. At least I don't totally hate it anymore.

Now - to swing this back to Becker content
rough cut tweener scales!

I cut these a few months ago, then got distracted. I've got to decide what to use as fasteners, and if I'm going to leave the scales removable

I've been using brass tubing from the hardware drawer at Lowes, its about the same size as the #10 stock screw . Then tap the inside to 8/32 and cut down to about 5/8" long. Counter sink 8/32 flat head Allen screws for both side . Fits really well on big Beckers, haven't tried tweeners yet. Sorry no pics, I have them on some micarta slabs that I haven't had time to shape yet.

Like what you did with that extremely odd shapes blade. Looks a lot more useful. I don't really know what else you could've done other than the Mini choil either. Good looking little blade.

Can't wait to see those tweener scales. I'd make em removable so they can be swapped between 15/16/17.....but that's just my opinion. It's probably wrong.
