As I continue to chase down the ultimate steel and the ultimate geometry/sharpening techniques, I continue to keep coming back to one knife that I have trusted and continue to trust. The Vanguard in 420HC.
I realize that the 110 is THE Buck knife (and I have a few myself
), the Vanguard feels like it was made for exactly my hand. It is the standard of comfort, ergonomics, and useability that I judge my other knives for, for light wood work and all hunting work. I would not feel underknifed if it were the only one on my belt while hunting in the Rockies. And more than once, it was.
Anyway, I just thought that too often we don't stop and give credit where it is due. This knife is pretty much one of the best designed that I have ever used, and the 420HC is great for extended outdoor use, and is easy to sharpen. This will be the first hunting knife that my kids will get as presents from me once they come of age, so that when they start buying knives, they have a valid standard of comparison.
