Once upon a time there was a little piglet.
This little piglet was known as the SHBA black hole.
Not wanting to make all the other piglets and HOG's angry he decided to search out other pieces of INFI and change his focus.
After trying lots and lots of different pieces he decided that his new favorite was the FBM Proto.
Having acquired a pair of Blue/Black handled ones and not having any luck getting others the little piglet decided to make a call.
The piglet contacted the Custom Shop with a request.
He wanted to know if he sent in his 2 newly acquired FBM Proto's would the CS drill out the tube fasteners and replace them with screws.
As long as they had the knives would they also make 2 more sets of handles.
Yup, you guessed it.
A set of Green/Black and set of Red/Black were ordered.
The knives were returned to the piglet but no Red/Black handles.
Seems that they were not quite finished and the little piglet will have to wait.

So here is the piglet new set of Proto's with both sets of handles.

The End.

P.S. Don't tell nozh2002/Vassili

(RFE - request for enhancement)

It will be nice to have handle scales screwed, so it will give more freedom to modify knives and make possible to scales sold separately like BM now doing for their scales.

This way we will be able to have scales from micarta or G10 or CF or Titanium or exotic wood or mammoth ivory or ...

Thanks, Vassili.

ROTFLMAO!! You're all right, Mulder! Good show!

Of course, I think the black/grn looks best. ;)

Now THAT'S thinkin' smart! Good show!! :D:thumbup::thumbup:

Interesting idea....they look like phillips head screws. Ok, I imagine that they are easy to take on and off that way. Cool that you get the best of both worlds, two very cool blades with all the flavors in handle configs. Congrats bro.

How about some photos of the grips off? And some of the hardware?

Thanks Dave!

Greg

Greg,

The knives are at home and I'm at work.
Pretty simple actually.

One short Round Coupling Nut

2 Short phillips flat head screws

Bada boom bada bing, new handles.

Here are some pics of some larger bolts & a hex coupler to give an idea of what I am talking about.

Wonder if Jerry & crew could EDM a hex hole instead of drilling a round hole for the handle fasteners??????

So it's fair to assume that with the standard rivets drilled out, that's all the hardware one would have to purchase to make the handles removable? Or are the handles somehow special for this setup? Also I guess you could replace the philips with Torx, no?

Greg,

I'm not sure and would recommend that you call the shop before attempting to do this on your own.
I chose philips because they are everywhere and even on my Leatherman tool should I ever need to tighten the handles in the field.

Dave, they are beuts. congrats. glad to see you are in the 10 inch club now:D

I can't believe I originally passed up an opportunity to get a red/black one. I really really wanted a blue-black so I passed.

I'm an idiot.

Dave, do you put a little loc-tite on the threads? Assuming you plane to use them, it'll be interesting to see how long the srews hold without wiggling...

Very nice Mulder!!

For those of you asking, I've done something similar to a Fire Warden. Round coupler and countersunk brass screws (Have some new buffalo horn scales coming soon)

Ok, now for the Paul Harvey finish.

If you all read my sig line you probably already know that this was a ruse.
You probably can also guess why I asked the question here:

Now the rest of the story.
I do not have a pair of FBM Proto's with interchangable handles.
What I really have is a set of 5 Proto's.

And now you know the rest of the story. :D
