Well, Dylan has been coming to the shop one or two days a week for the last few weeks, and I feel its proper to thank him here for all his help, and acknowledge that his knives are improving very quickly.

Monday he ground a few bevels that turned out SWEET.

Wednesday he profiled a batch of 25 knives for me. This is a LOT of work, and wears you out, and 25 in a day is a respectable #. My best is 45 knives in a day. It eats you up, and that night the first sip of beer is one of those sould quenching well earned pleasures.

Drinking beer in the shop?????? I think I'll try that....;)

Can I come down for a lesson on handle finishing?

Shhh!!

You'll give him "the swelled ego.":o

Its cool to think that I was able to see do your first old hickory mods, to being a full on "grail knife" maker, to taking on an apprentice of sorts. Are you living the dream or what? :)

I certainly feel blessed. You guys did this as much as I did.

You go , Dylan!
You can come to Missouri and hand sand to your hearts content.:D
Props to both of you. To Andy for taking a new maker under his wing and to Dylan for stepping up to the plate and being a get it done sorta guy.
Iz

We need some pics of his work. Of course since he is helping in the shop, the pics may be of a pile of saw dust he swept up! Just kidding, pics of his knives please.

You should see the crap that comes out of that vacuum when I empty it. lol. and I'll have you guys know I've told Andy from day one I don't mind doing the shit work around here. He's passing on some priceless skills and that is certainly worth getting dirty. ....even when it means working with carbon fiber... :grumpy:;)

Thanks Andy and fellow homies. I appreciate the kudos. I'll try not to let my ego swell up.

uh oh... OH NO....... THE EGO IS OUT OF CONTROL!

LOL

Seriously though, thanks guys. I'm learning all I can and I know I still have a ways to go. I've said it before. It's great learning from someone like Andy, because his standards are so high that it really pushes your standards way up for your own knives. Hopefully someday soon you'll see some Fletcher Knives in the for sale section.

I was really impressed with Dylan's work. Great job.

Thanks Mike.

I think you guys are going to like the knives I heat treated yesterday. Two of them were experiements, but the other five I know you guys are going to love. Some of the forging scale on them had just absolutely amazing patterns. One of the experiements is a wide super duty camp knife that some of you Bow Legged Chopper fans are going to dig. Hopefully I can make some serious headway on them tomorrow and I'll take some pictures.

I tempered them for you today. They really look good guys. Dylan's grinds are coming along in a scary fast manner.
