I got my issue of Blade magazine yesterday and I always enjoy reading "Knife Talk" by our own Ed Fowler. The article is about grind strength tests, basic facts of blade geometry and talks about the benefits of the convex grind. It is a must read if you like the convex grind, which of course is my favorite. :D Thanks again Ed, I always enjoy your style of writing. ;)

Thank you Scott:
Sharing thoughts about knives and hearing from those who appreciate the experience is what makes writing worth while. That simple experiment answered questions that I should have seriously addressed years ago.

All too often we simply accept what has been without checking out the influence of the many variables that influence blade performance. Once again this is one that can be explored by any bladesmith in his shop.

Thanks Again

I did what I call a modified MP grind a while back. Thinner near the riccasso and leaving more meat at the sweet spot. Looking forward to getting into that article myself. Nice knife in there to ED.

I Just got my copy of "Blade" in the mail. In normally scan over the pages and see if something will catch my eye and warrant further reading, and this article did!

I would like to agree with the others here and give my compliments on an article that I also enjoyed reading. I saw numbers, and a torque wrench on a knife being bent. I have never been a fan of testing heat treating by arbitrarily bending blades, but this was different, this was testing of cross-sectional geometry with the amount of ft/lbs required to bend it! Very cool!

I would like applaud a job well done, and encourage you to keep up the good work, our business needs more of this type of testing and subsequent sharing of the information.
