So you guys have inspired me, although I haven't modified my Becker knife (because I think its perfect) all your posts have given me the courage to start modding my knives.
Here is a pic of my recently customized Condor Boomslang.

What it looks like now.

I need to polish it more, but its been re-profiled spine and edge both.

when I was sanding it down I noticed that since I was carefully paying attention to the edge as well it was getting sharper and sharper.

Sorry about the crappy Pic we still don't have a proper camera since my wife's camera died.

I didn't have stripper in the house when I decided to take the coating off, I sanded it off.
I did a wet high grit sanding but I cant seem to get it mirror finished, anyone have any good ideas/pointers ?
I was thinking about using a weak acid to clean the steel then re sanding with 2000 grit, any input ?

Thanks for looking guys

Looks great. I recently caught the modding bug after saying "naw, my becker is perfect the way she is". Now I've stripped my BK7, and am currently trying to sand down the factory grind marks to get a really nice polished face. Also doing a patina along the spine and top portion of the blade, and then some file work. I'm more or less winging it as I go, with a little help from threads on here. Right now I'm having a hell of a time hand sanding with 280, then 320, then 600. It's shined up really nicely, but the factory grinds take so long to disappear. It'll be worth it, and there's nothing like the knowledge that what you have is your own, unique item.

boomslang looks like a hell of a knife, but seems a little machete-ish, what do you think of it?

2000 should get it pretty shiny. I'd say look into a buffing drill bit before you remove too much steel. Very cool mod though. I didn't like those Condors but I really like what you created out of one.

Haze, I am liking it alot.
I have always been a fan of the Recurve and Kukri, the Boomslang made me thing of a hybrid and I thought that was sexy.
Of course I wanted to make it my own too.
42blades helped and then I took it home to where my vision led.
I still want her shined to mirror, then I will patina her, but for now, shes making me very happy.

Thanks for the input guys.

I polished one once and It was tedious. I achieved pretty good results using sil carbide sandpaper. It was a 10 pack from harbor freight starting at 220 and getting finer. I heard the more grits you use the better the result.

Nice work. I've been fighting the urge to buy a Boomslang. Hows she working out for ya?

it takes time! 800+ grit at this point a movie and beer. finish with 1000 - 1500 and some polish - But kiss it good bye when you first use it.

Yeh polishing looks so awesome, until its used then it looks terrible. I have done two mirror patinas with blue and mustard. Semi mirror then coated with gun blue gives a shiny gun metal type color. And putting mustard in a pattern on a semi mirror blade then washing with water and rubbing with 0000 steel wool and very lightly with 3000 give like a "ghost patina" where it shines up the patina marks and blend in with the polished blade but can be seen as the light moves

That Boomslang is a very attractive piece. It will be interesting to see how you finish it. :)

Seems like a lot of work for a working blade. I won't do, but I will embrace diversity, for knives at least.

Don't fight the feeling. The Condor Boomslang is an AWESOME knife. Sheath is fantastic as well. I love mine.

I cleaned it up some more and I think I am going to Mango patina it, Mirror finish will just get destroyed using it anyway ..lol

I like it too Twinsticks, thanks for posting the pic, now people have a much better pic to see what I did to mine.

Tomchung, Nice slide on your Tippmann TPX (I'm a TippmannHead as well as a beckerhead lol). I think I'll have to pickup a boomslang sometime, It looks like a great blade, reminds me of the Fiddleback Forge machete.

Yeah I know she's gonna lose all that nice, mirror-like shine the first time I use her, but I figured she should atleast get the chance to be pretty once. It's just steel after all, and I can patina, polish, or paint it back to whatever i feel like. I've got one side shined up progressively to 2000, I think my next step is polishing compound to get it literally mirror-finish. It looks pretty gorgeous right now, polished blade and swedge, and a mango/mustard patina along the upper portion. I'll try to get pics up soon.
