Thanks to everyone, especially Shelby, for all the great photos and info on the AR folder. I just picked one up last week and I'm VERY happy with it. Being my first knife in this price bracket and being so far away, I wanted to be sure it was worth it.

The fit and finish seems to have got even better since the early models, no visible grind lines anywhere and the scales fit perfectly.

A couple of questions you guys might be able to help me with.

Which came first - the GB or the AR and when did they first come out?

On my AR there seems to be some sort of soft\spoungy washer between the bronze washers and the scales. Is this a washer or just some sort of grease?

The washer on the locking side has a flat edge on one side - what is holding it in place so it doesn't spin around. I am loathe to pull it apart to look as the current setup is perfect.

I have a BG42 blade. will all future models have the new crucible steel?

If anyone else here in OZ wants some info on these knives please email me and I'll be only to happy to help. I was going to write a review on it but I would be only covering old ground. The info tucked away in this forum is very helpful.

Cheers

Peter,
The GB came first. The Strider guys have always been kinda parcial to the tanto type tip. The rest I cant really help you on my BG42 GB does not seem to have any of the things you described but I take for granted that Mick and Duane only build the best and if they put it in there then they wanted it there... Who knows for sure....Mick or Duane will address this if it seems to be somthing out of the ordinary.

Congrats on joining the Strider Nation.

Thanks for the reply Brandon. After looking at one of Mick Strider's recent post it appears my blade is s60v even though it is stamped BG42. Either way I am still happy. The questions I raised about the washers are just for my curiousity. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary and from looking hard at some of Shelby's photos posted here they are the same as mine.

When I get a new knife I always have a stupid uncontollable urge to pull it apart and put it back together again - I just like to see how things are engineered I guess. This is one knife I'm going to leave alone though, the set-up is spot on.:)
