I LOVE money!!! but not for the reason most people love money :) Oh, don't get me wrong, I love to make/earn money so we can enjoy a fun but modest lifestyle---we're not very materialistic but we want to do the things we enjoy and money sometimes plays a role in that.

BUT---the real reason "I" LOVE money is the character, the feel, the art that money/currency possess. Whether it be paper or coins, I LOVE money.

Money and traditional knives to "me" are similar in a lot of ways---they see lots of pocket time---they're very functional and have a wonder to them like where they've been, what they've seen and done. In the US there's a neat website where you can track a dollar bill called "www.wheresgeorge.com" if that bill has been stamped with the websites stamp. I enjoy seeing where a bill has been prior to me and where it goes once it leaves me---this intrigues me.

But what REALLY intrigues me is when you have an old dated coin or bill---40, 50, 60 or up to and over 100 years old---to me it's so cool/interesting to think that coin or bill has been out in circulation or semi-circualtion for that many years.

As a kid we owned a family furniture store for over 45 years. My brothers and I were brought up through the delivery ranks before we graduated to the sales floor---my dads way of getting us accumulated with the ins and outs of the furniture business. When on delivery if the screen door didn't hold itself open, one trick was to insert a coin or coins between the wedge and cylinder of a screen door plunger to hold it open as we moved the furniture in the house for the customer.

I always carried a 1964 Kennedy silver half dollar for this specific task---carried it for years and still have it to this day...it will eventually become one of the many many items I pass on to my sons...I also have the first "Susan B Anthony" dollar my oldest brother Jeff gave me. Plus will doing yard work as a kid I found several late 1800's and early 1900's Silver Dollars---that is when I became a money junkie. So you can see there's a fascination I have for old coins :p

NOW to you JACK. Thank you my friend for the absolute awesome gift's you have sent my way!!! You are truly a gem and such a great friend to me and many on the forum here:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:. Jack noticed a post I made about my love or currency, foreign and domestic and this is what I rec'd in the mail from Jack just a day ago. I will let the pictures speak for themselves ;)

And the tradition get stronger! Great writeup Paul and thanks for the smile! Jack sure knows how to spread the love around. Both of you gents are the best.

Very cool! From one great guy,to another, well done all around!:thumbup:

It's not money that is the root of all evil, they say it's the love of money...... but I don't think they were talking about the same as you. :D Congratulations.

Glad the coins arrived OK Paul, and it's nice to read about your interest and how it came about :)

Jack

Very cool once again Jack, and Paul is another fantastic guy both stellar individuals.
Paul I love old coins also, my great uncle ( my dads uncle & only Irishmen in a family of Sicilians ) I spent a lot of time with as a small boy, he worked on the railroad and when I would visit he would always give me a couple of coins out of what seemed like a barrel of coins, I would go home and research them and report back and then we would repeat the cycle the next time, fond memories.

Jack sent me a great Victorian era penny! It is pretty darned neat. I keep it on my dresser, and look at it about every day!

I think you were the first BF member to get one of my old coins T, glad you like it :)

I've been a part of more forums than I can count over the years mostly car and gun forums but none of them have an atmosphere like the one that has been created here in the traditional forum. I'm fairly new here compared to most of you but I have spent countless hours in the last few months reading and learning all I can about these great knives & I find myself loving this place not just for all the knives I get to look at and learn about here but there is also a sense of commodore here that I have never found in any other forum. It seems to me that traditional knives attract good honest people and I think that has a lot to do with it! :)

Speaking of which Duncan I was really hoping to get out and get some pictures of the knives you sent my way this last weekend but the one day it was nice I worked all day! It will get done and you'll be thanked proper :). I really want to take them out to my favorite spot on one of the cliffs overlooking the Pacific not far from where I live. It's where I like to go to clear my head and it would make for an excellent backdrop to snap some pictures of those Bokers! Hope all is well.

Jake

Jake, Please don't worry too much, you won fair and square-theres no need for thanks, having people like Paul, Jack and yourself as well is just what makes this place so great
