Hello Knife Nuts,

As many of you know, a few weeks ago I dipped my toe back into the traditional world by asking you all for some advice. And I've asked a lot of questions since and you've all been great about answering.

This morning as I was leaned up against my car scraping the windshield and not having to care one lick about a knife clip scratching the paint (which has happened to me), I smiled and thought about the knife that was to arrive at my door this day.

I wanted a Wharncliffe blade and found a Mini Trapper in 6.5 and well...

Not the best pics but just wanted to grab some quick ones.

But oh man, I'd forgotten what that snap and half-stop felt like. I really did. I forgot how nimble and natural these knives are. I've realized how much I've come to like the natural materials. I've been carrying a traditional since I first pulled up a chair on the porch and, again, to quote someone whom I regrettably forget, "welcome to your new freedom" rings true.

Now, this knife won't be my favorite pattern but it is very smooth and absolutely worth the fifty bucks I gave for it. I'm planning out a couple more and, as some of you will know, my wife wants one of her own as well.

I saw a thread recently about Case quality and after a couple more samples I want to weigh in on that but for right now I will say the value is excellent.

I'm so mad at myself for ignoring these knives for so long. But I'm so glad to back. I will have more questions for sure!

Thank you.

Very NICE, and you summed up so well what we as a whole feel with a traditional pocket knife. I really like most knives but my roots are traditional pocket knives and to me that's just so natural. A beautiful knife and when Case get's it right they make a very nice knife. Congrats and welcome home:thumbsup:

Welcome back to traditionals, I've only gotten back into them myself since early this year. I found this forum looking for information on Rough Rider knives. I looked through some threads and immediately joined up. Only been on since may, and boy has my collection grown! I do most of my vintage knife hunting in pawn shops and antique shops, yard sales and Craigslist. I've been very blessed to have found some amazing knives, usually at real bargains. Most of the time I find something new I want to share it here with the people who can appreciate and understand our knife knut passion. Most of the time I think " I can't wait to show the guy and gals on the porch!" And end up taking pics and posting them from the parking lot lol. This can be a fun and addicting hobby, but more so to be able to share it here with these great people! Really nice that people here are just as happy and encouraging whether you post your latest Rough Rider or old clamshell Imperial, or a nice custom piece. Again I say welcome, glad to have you on board:)

Great post, Mr. Chaps.
So glad you are sharing your experience with the porch.
I love your "So she says" thread and look forward to seeing what your wife ends up with.
Maybe it'll get my wife into knives

But yes, I share your thrill of traditionals, the snap and movement, the walk and talk.
I was always a modern knife - nut, I remember receiving some of my early traditional purchases and thinking, oh this is cute, but I can't carry this tiny thing. What a joke.
But then I realized after a bit that I was actually selecting them from my collection as my EDC choice more and more. I realized I liked the snap. The knife felt "alive." I realized I wanted to carry a knife with a spring. And the handle materials were way more interesting.
Etc.,etc., etc,.
Anyway, nice mini trapper!
Case is an awesome company. So much variety, so much value, and readily available. I have a sway back gent coming in the mail, which will be my first wharncliffe blade.
Excited for sure :)

Thank you. Sure would love to read your thoughts on your new knife after you get it. That is one of the patterns I'm eyeing pretty hard. :)

Very cool!! Im waiting on an improved trapper pattern knife, same as yours, to get to my house as we speak. I hope it will be as nice your Case there! Mine will be my first GEC knife, and my first purchase off the exchange here.

Eli Chaps Eli Chaps , your new bone stag Case wharncliffe mini trapper is gorgeous. I've discovered that a full size trapper is too big for my tastes, but the mini trapper is an entirely different story. I like the Wharncliffe blade, although I wish I could get a mini trapper with wharncliffe replacing the clip blade, and keep the spey along with wharncliffe.

David, you've identified what I think is one of my favorite aspects of hanging out on The Porch!:cool::cool::thumbsup::) (Especially since I actually prefer clamshell Imperials and RRs to customs or GECs.)

I agree with you about the blade selection. That would be a nice combination.
