Got mine today and watched the video. Then went to get my Persistence to touch it up. Could not tell a difference. Then a cheap Chinese one that I got for $5 and within 10 strokes on just the white rods, I could see it sharper. Then, got some scissors, and in 3 minutes, wow, could tell a difference. Kitchen knives tonight.
I hope nothing needs to be reprofiled. Hopefully, I never get to that point and I appreciate the education that Sal gives on different grinds, and why Spyderco does what it does. Informative. If you reshoot a DVD, Sal, show some close ups and at angles of how the blade is perpendicular. I bet you can use that thing blindfolded!!!! I can see why people here say get it, though I am sure freehand is a good skill as well, for a newbie, why chance it?
Sal, I know you may not do this on your website because of some concerns (maybe health codes, I dunno) but say some defect in a set comes back. Do you sell rods that are cosmetic in defect or have been returned, in case someone wanted a coarse or diamond set or the EF rods? Rather than scour ebay or some other seller? Just wondering as I would love to see how sharper the next grade of rods do (and you did a fine job on that SAK shaving hair). Maybe you can do a post in the sales forum for some rods, as I am sure there are guys like me who would love to expand the set or have a backup pair and you have rods that for some reason you could not sell direct, but maybe here you could as just sal the guy?
