It was lovely while it lasted. The military discount was a Godsend to me as someone on a fixed income. I signed up in your SFO with my Colorado DL (noted as veteran) and DD214 and have used the discount several times since then. On my last attempt to order from your site I was informed my veteran status has expired and led me to a third party site to reapply. I filled out the form (including my SSN) and got a reply that, due to my service being too far back they could not verify it and I would have to send documentation, etc., to get hooked up again. In the mean time the ID company started spamming me with "offers" by email for non-knife related items. Enough is enough. I unsubscribed from their emails and will make no further attempt to get the benefit my service earned. I understand that you need to protect yourselves against the abuse of the discount, like from "stolen valor" fools but I don't need the frustration of dealing with this.

Sucks to hear that.
Third party verification, link to offsite personal information requests rarely ends well.

I hope this can be rectified through another channel if you are still interested.

Sorry about your frustration with Spydercos new ID ME service. My wife went through similar issues with them and First Net(cellular) verification! A lot of her Specialized Work badges don't use her last name for safety reasons. She had to send multiple items over a few days and finally was accepted.

I understand why Spyderco and other companies are making iverification more detailed and completely support their methods. Not sure about the Spam as this didn't happen to her. I'm sure a quick email to Spyderco customer service and digging up your old documents will resolve the problem.

Don't get me wrong, guys. I own more Spyderco knives than any other brand. They are by far the most ethical, transparent, progressive manufacture around. I am just disappointed that they had to go this direction. They made it clear that utilizing this ID service is the only way to continue with the discount. I am just an old curmudgeon who refuses to jump through the hoops to get it done. To be honest, I have more than enough knives now. It's probably good for my budget to be discouraged from buying more.

OP:

As I recall, Sal doesn't respond to PMs here but, as soon as he sees this thread, I'm sure he'll have something (hopefully) helpful to say about it.

Another suggestion is to send a msg to TazKristi on the Spyderco Forum. Kristi is the sys admin of the Spyderco Forum and may be able to help you address the ID Me problem or offer you a way around it.

Good luck!

It my have but I doubt it. The wording was quite specific that ID me was the only way.
Hi, GronK:
I'm sorry to hear about this challenge and I understand your frustration. Could you please private message me your name and e-mail address? I'll look into the situation and see if we can resolve this for you.

Thank you for your service. You are appreciated and we'll find a way to make this right.

Kristi

They’re using ID me, same as Benchmade, I’ve used it several times with no issue and actually like being able to sign into one log in through a third party rather than trusting 100 companies with a DD-214 and other sensitive info. So in other words, it isn’t some spam website for messing with veteran emails.
