I believe I'm getting a reputation for stubbornly using knives that are "worn out." I like to find well used, or over sharpened knives, sometimes with damaged covers. and see if I can fix them up. It's an affordable way to collect vintage knives that would be out of my price range if they were in mint condition, and I really do enjoy the character of these old knives.

I call it "r8shell's Home for Old and Wayward Knives"

A few weeks ago, t.willy t.willy asked if I'd be interested in a few old knives. The bone covers were cracked, and they needed some TLC beyond what he wanted to try. Of course I said "Sure!"
So here's what came in the mail: A couple of SAKS that t.willy said he won't carry. (they will go in the car for can and bottle opening emergencies) An Imperial easy open jack from way back before they went to shell construction. An Ulster Knife Co cattle knife! A nifty GEC knife pick to use when repairing stiff blades.

Wow! Thank you so much, Trevor! I feel a little guilty taking such generous gifts. I mean, when someone sends me an old wreck, I know it's probably not a knife that they would want, being in such bad shape, but these are really nice!

I'm going to epoxy the broken piece of bone, and stabilize the cracks. The pen blade on the Imperial sits a little proud, so I'll either try to drop the kick, or more likely reprofile the spine.

Thank you so much, Trevor. The real heat of summer is coming, so I'm looking forward to doing inside projects with the air conditioning on. Then these are going to get carried and used.

Thank you R8shell for the kind words. As I mentioned it was my pleasure to send them to you. I have so enjoyed reading example after example of kindness and generosity on this site and I've always wanted to do something myself. When I saw Charlie's post about how he loves that you never give up on a knife no matter what shape it's in I new it was my opportunity to do a little good. I'm glad you like the knives and have a good use for them all. Keep up the great work keeping old knives from ending up in some over stuffed Junk Drawer. ;) Trevor

Treasure for sure!! Rescuable knives that might serve the next generation of knife lovers!!
You are writing a chapter for each of them, Rachel!
Nice going T.Willy!!
Thank you Charlie. It was your post that started it all lol.

Really awesome, and if anyone can put these knives to use it's you.
That Wenger looks handy, looks to be along the lines of a Vic recruit.

Here's an update! I mixed up some epoxy and got out the files and got to tinkerin' ;)

Stabilized the crack and dropped the spine on the secondary, and the Imperial is good to go!

The Ulster got the broken off piece of bone glued back, and a bit of blade wobble hammered out. I also forced some patina on the buffed blades. All it needs now is a good sharpening and it's going in my pocket. :D

Thanks again. :thumbsup::):thumbsup:
