I believe I'm getting a reputation for stubbornly using knives that are "worn out." I like to find well used, or over sharpened knives, sometimes with damaged covers. and see if I can fix them up. It's an affordable way to collect vintage knives that would be out of my price range if they were in mint condition, and I really do enjoy the character of these old knives.

A few weeks ago,
t.willy
asked if I'd be interested in a few old knives. The bone covers were cracked, and they needed some TLC beyond what he wanted to try. Of course I said "Sure!"
So here's what came in the mail: A couple of SAKS that t.willy said he won't carry. (they will go in the car for can and bottle opening emergencies) An Imperial easy open jack from way back before they went to shell construction. An Ulster Knife Co cattle knife! A nifty GEC knife pick to use when repairing stiff blades.
Wow! Thank you so much, Trevor! I feel a little guilty taking such generous gifts. I mean, when someone sends me an old wreck, I know it's probably not a knife that they would want, being in such bad shape, but these are really nice!
I'm going to epoxy the broken piece of bone, and stabilize the cracks. The pen blade on the Imperial sits a little proud, so I'll either try to drop the kick, or more likely reprofile the spine.
Thank you so much, Trevor. The real heat of summer is coming, so I'm looking forward to doing inside projects with the air conditioning on. Then these are going to get carried and used.
