As some of you may know, I recently had a little bad luck in the form of some unexpected medical expenses from the birth of my daughter. She's 8 months old now, happy and healthy. Basically our lackluster health insurance kind of caught me off guard, and while I thought I had everything squared away with our bills, this new round hit me a little hard.
I had to sell of some rather hard to find knives from my collection. This was hard to do, but I figured that every last one that I sold made another one of my fellow traditional knife nuts very happy, and that made it a lot easier to do. I lost some knives, but I made some friends, and that's largely what I think our little part of the internet here is all about. We all love knives, but this place is bigger than a little piece of steel and bone riding in our pockets. We have something of a commune here, and I feel that that needs to be fostered at any cost. We have a couple of excellent moderators here that do a great job of maintaining the atmosphere of our sub-forum, and I believe it's a largely thankless job. So my first big THANK YOU goes to our mods!!
Next, as I was listing these various knives for sale and responding to some WTB ads, I often received messages like "Is everything ok?" and I even got a message from a kind member offering to send me back a knife I had previously gifted him, knowing that it would help in my fundraising efforts. Wow. You all are just so thoughtful and kind. I defy ANYONE to find another place like this online; somewhere where the members are so protective of each other, and so willing to give with basically nothing in return. It's just amazing! So my next big THANK YOU goes to all the regulars here in the Trad. forum. You're all just incredible.
Now I am happy to report that once again, my house is (at least temporarily) in order. I got everything squared away, and am now once again hunting up those knives.
With a couple of hints from some of our users here, I was able to locate this:
That's a Northfield 421114LB in stag. What's the significance? This series knife (in stag) was released on the day my daughter, Julia, was born.
Very cool.
And just because I'm a proud papa, here's the other February 25th release:

Now, as to this Esnyx guy... Wow, what an asset to our community here! He had posted a couple of his custom creations for sale on the exchange. I sent him a message about one that he had listed expressing how much I liked it, and lamenting the fact that I didn't have the funds at that moment to purchase it. Without being asked, Evan offered to send it to me, and basically said that he trusted me to make things right! HOLY MOLEY! As if this weren't great enough on its own, he told me that he could help me with my seemingly unending quest to find a long pull clip point TC Barlow! I read that and pretty much just passed out. After recovering, we messaged back and forth and reached a trade agreement. Knives were shipped thither and yon, and on Saturday these arrived in my mailbox:
Evan's beautiful custom Barlow, in interior mammoth:
And the fantastic TC Barlow in ebony with a long pull clip point main:
The two beauties together (ebony and iiiiivoorryyyyyyy):
Wow, they're just fantastic. Evan's custom work is without flaw, and I just couldn't be happier. He's a class act to deal with, an amazingly talented craftsman, and a guy that I consider a friend. THANK YOU, Evan! I have a small custom project in my head that I'm going to message you about.
So there it is, a tale of knives lost, knives found, and friends made. Thank you for taking the time to read my rambling post, it's much appreciated!
