I'd like to thank Mike Sastre, Sonil, and everyone else who chimed in on my issues with Boltaron.

Today was the first day that I was able to bend some plastic since making that post, the 2 sheaths I made have great retention now, almost too good, it's pretty difficult put the knife back in lol...

Anyways, after watching Mikes video I immediately found places where I could improve. Then after a few "A-HA" moments and watching a vid that Sonil did, and several others on the youtube I realized my biggest error... What I call "the squish".

I guess Kydex is a bit more playable than I thought so where I was clamping was the biggest issue, I wasn't consistent there. Which is why my first few stabs at using Boltaron worked and the next few failed.

If you're having issues, any issues, I suggest Mikes vid, and this bit of advice that he gave me. To paraphrase, a lot of the tips comes from watching the vid, they're unspoken...

Very glad to have been some help, Keola! Boltaron, aka Concealex, is a great product once you understand it. Not quite as easy as kydex to work with, but well worth any extra steps needed. Inner surface is a little smoother, edges finish up better, and you can get a crisper lock using less material. Admittedly splitting hairs, but the lock with kydex feels a little "mushy" to me, whereas the same lock with Concealex is nice and crisp. If you are having difficulty returning the knife to the sheath, you can either slightly flare or chamfer the sheath mouth. Makes insertion much easier.

Also, many thanks for the kind words on my Kitchen Kydex DVD set and workbook. Be sure to periodically revisit both, as the words, both written and said, plus the visuals, will certainly mean more to you after some "hands-on", and are designed to promote more of those "A-HA" moments over time, whether it is another discovery, or something you come up with in response to the material. Love to see some of your work, whether it is posted here, or sent to my email.
