I'm sitting here finishing off one of several Deschutes Obsidian Stouts (great stout by the way) thinking how envious I am of those of you who have dedicated time and devotion to that which some of us are just enthusiastic about. I'm 60 plus thinking how I might have spent my life differently doing something I love instead of what would make me the most money at the moment. Most of us are just enthusiasts. We buy and like our blades and revel in discussions about them but will never have the depth of knowledge that some of you possess because you have devoted your life's work to it. Because it is time to think about SHOT and Blade Show in Atlanta many of us will participate in online discussions about how cool all of that is. I just wanted to take a moment to thank some of you for your life's work and mostly for being accessible to the rest of us. As simple enthusiasts we can buy and acquire and dream of what it would be like to be a true outdoorsman and blade creators but it is just that...a dream, which most of us won't fulfill. For the ways you, everyday, make it seem like we are equal when in reality we are not...thank you.. I will name some here but I apologize in advance for not naming you all but thank you Mr. Ethan Becker and Bladite and James Terrio and Guyon and The Warrior and Tradewater and TMHunt and Worldwood and Dexwithers and 710 and Granitestateofmind and 1066vik and daizee and Murphnuge and gmoneylov and Derek and many others...if I didn't name you please forgive me...I'm relatively new here....only a year.

Thank you for aiding and abetting my relatively new Becker addiction. From 0 to 17 in 1 year (and I'm no where near done). And seriously..thank you for being accessible and for being willing to share your knowledge and experience in a fun and non-condescending way on this forum. Thank you.

Oh...and by the way...another Obsidian Stout just bit the dust.

Edited to add...I know that all I've named aren't knife makers and some are just enthusiasts, kinda like me...but you make a concerted effort to pro-actively participate in the creation of smaller world of which I am glad to be a tiny part. Thank you.

thanks for being here and sharing the enthusiasm with us.
and I agree - the obsidian stout is one of the best I've had.
if you can get it in your area, I also suggest you try the Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat -- it's an oatmeal stout brewed about 60 miles from me.
(their pub ale is also pretty tasty)

Well said mate, I've only been participating a short time, (lurking since 2012) but have learnt much (going through older posts, only up to page 40) but the gentlemen you mention have made me feel extremely welcome from day 1. A great forum with great people, I only wish I were geographically closer to attend some of the events and meet some of them.

Stout is my favorite when drinking the good stuff!! My mouth is watering now.:)

Hey Mbay.....

Reading your post was certainly a lovely way to start my day...... I really enjoy the fellowship of the blade that has sprouted here and am very pleased that you are appreciative and enjoying yourself ........

A couple of days ago I wanted to go into a big thank you rant and naming the names you named and a few others and did not do it for fear of leaving some of my favorite people out(I am old and getting feeble in the head) sooooo I was very pleased to see you name names.......

What a great bunch of generous people hang here...... Thanks for noticing...... Glad you are here.....

Ethan

Well, I'm certainly a little surprised and humbled to even be on your list, but thank you for including me. I agree wholeheartedly with this thread. The Beckerhead community is a very welcoming one, which seems very out of the ordinary in this day and age. I have learned so much from this forum. I am also grateful to call some of them friends; in the very real, sharing a beer around a fire sort of meaning - as anyone who's been to one of the Gatherings can surely attest. And none of it happens without people like you as well as the people you listed (and didn't list). Glad you're here around the pixelated fire pit with us.

thank you muchly, enjoy your stay!

All-too-often we domesticated humans substitute staring into artificial screen light for staring into real fire..... but there aren't many places online I'd rather stare at than here. :-)

Thank you for naming me. By most accounts, I am un-memorable.

Thank you for posting this mbay1455. I also appreciate the members that share their years of experience/knowledge with the rest of us. You mentioned that the list included people that were not knifemakers, but that is not surprising. There are more than a few members that contribute to the forum and help make it a better place, and they don't make knives.
