I've commented more than once about how generous and friendly this forum is, especially after I won a terrific Schrade lockback from Vince in his 4th of July Giveaway. But this is about something else that happened to me recently through this forum.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned in a thread that while I collect Zippo lighters, I haven't picked up any in awhile since I was mostly looking for hard to find Zippos, primarily from the 40's, 50's and 60's, the heyday of advertising imprints on lighters. One that I had been looking for had the "Reddy Kilowatt" design, a design I was very familiar with growing up as my Dad was an electrician and Reddy was everywhere, and of course on one of his Zippos. I searched eBay for many years and either the available lighters were trashed, way overpriced or modern reproductions.

A member here saw my post and contacted me as he had a Reddy Kilowatt Zippo in near mint condition, and in the original box. He sent it to me as a trade for any knife that I would care to send back. Having been here since late last year and seeing the character of the folks on this forum I agreed and within a couple of days Reddy showed up at my door. Except for some characteristic aging the Zippo is in terrific condition. It took a little while for me to figure out what I should send in return, as I wanted the sender to enjoy what I picked out for him and I reviewed some of his previous posts to figure out what he would like. As I felt one knife for such an awesome Zippo wouldn't do so I sent two and thankfully he wrote back and said he was very happy with the knives I sent.

I've been wanting to get a picture of the Zippo to post before I wrote this but I just haven't had the chance and I didn't want to wait any longer to acknowledge his generosity. Thank you again sitflyer, I love the Zippo, and if Dad were around I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it too :)

Thank you too to the Traditionals Forum, you have made this newbie knife nut feel at home.

Thats a very cool story, and I take my hat to the person who sent you the lighter-they would have known it was hard to come-by, and yet obviously thought you needed it more, Congrats to both of you.

Indeed Duncan, and the Zippo is even older than I am(!) :D

Nice pics Jake, it's been a long while since I was at Zippo and Case. I have a Zippo with the logo of "ZAC" - Zippo and Case - for the kinetic sculpture they had in the museum. Collecting Zippos introduced me to Case knives back in the 90's because of some collectors' sets they've made.

Griff, congrats on the elusive Reddy Kilowatt Zippo! That must have made your day. I remember sitflyer's pic and some of the comments that followed.

I too am a recipient of sitflyer's generosity. Good guy, that sitflyer. One of the many that make this a great place to be a part of.

That was a very nice gesture sitflyer. It sounds like you made Griffs day :D
Thanks for sharing Griff, congrats

Just wanted to add, I too have been a recipient of Sitflyer's generosity. Definitely a good guy. Figured i'd let everyone know, he deserves the props :D

You're Welcome!

here's a pic for your thread, it was but a small thing to do.....

Congratz on both of you.

A nice gesture from everyone of you, Duane & Griff!! I like stories like this. A great place of great gentlemen we have here!

Kind regards
Andi

Thank you for posting the pic Duane, I couldn't have made a better one myself. The only thing I couldn't replicate in the picture is your sweet vintage Bellmatic, though I could have put in a restored Seiko cal. 6138 bullhead chrono (my 6139 is back at the watchmaker's - haven't had much luck with vintage watches)

Cheers,
Griff

Griff,

I experienced such a jolt (or was it a surge? Ha!) of nostalgia when I saw Reddy in this picture (when sitflyer first posted it), I can only imagine what it did to you, given your immediate heritage.

Congratulations!

Well-done, all the way around.

That is a neat story. That was very kind of sitflyer.

Griff, Do these photos interest you? I took them a while back when I was at the Case/Zippo museum. I previously posted the Case photos (link below) but I had left out the Zippo photos.

There is a Case/Zippo museum?!?

There is a Case/Zippo museum?!?

Sure is, in Bradford PA. Back when I was actively collecting Zippos I went when it had just opened, so I'm overdue to get back. The dangerous part is the attached store, there are plenty of goodies waiting for unsuspecting knife and lighter collectors who are already weakened by the amazing display of history.

If you go, take lots of money :D
