I've commented more than once about how generous and friendly this forum is, especially after I won a terrific Schrade lockback from Vince in his 4th of July Giveaway. But this is about something else that happened to me recently through this forum.
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned in a thread that while I collect Zippo lighters, I haven't picked up any in awhile since I was mostly looking for hard to find Zippos, primarily from the 40's, 50's and 60's, the heyday of advertising imprints on lighters. One that I had been looking for had the "Reddy Kilowatt" design, a design I was very familiar with growing up as my Dad was an electrician and Reddy was everywhere, and of course on one of his Zippos. I searched eBay for many years and either the available lighters were trashed, way overpriced or modern reproductions.
A member here saw my post and contacted me as he had a Reddy Kilowatt Zippo in near mint condition, and in the original box. He sent it to me as a trade for any knife that I would care to send back. Having been here since late last year and seeing the character of the folks on this forum I agreed and within a couple of days Reddy showed up at my door. Except for some characteristic aging the Zippo is in terrific condition. It took a little while for me to figure out what I should send in return, as I wanted the sender to enjoy what I picked out for him and I reviewed some of his previous posts to figure out what he would like. As I felt one knife for such an awesome Zippo wouldn't do so I sent two and thankfully he wrote back and said he was very happy with the knives I sent.
I've been wanting to get a picture of the Zippo to post before I wrote this but I just haven't had the chance and I didn't want to wait any longer to acknowledge his generosity. Thank you again sitflyer, I love the Zippo, and if Dad were around I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it too
Thank you too to the Traditionals Forum, you have made this newbie knife nut feel at home.
