A few events have transpired lately which make me very thankful for the people, place and things in my life. I’m going to do my small part to give back, and try to encourage you to do the same.

Thanksgiving is coming up, and I’m looking forward to spending time with friends and family, sharing time, stories, fellowship and food.

I’d like to put in a little plug for EDC / gear blog everydaycommentary. I’ve been reading it for over a year, and have picked up some really great gear based on Tony’s reviews. And he just made me a very happy man. If you’re not familiar with the blog, you may want to check it out.

My family has ties to some people in the Philippines. As far as we can tell, none has been directly affected by the devastation over there, but I still feel compelled to do something to help them out in this time of need.

All I ask is that you donate to the Philippines typhoon relief fund of your choice. Post the subject line from your receipt email, the fund you donated to, and the date the donation was made along with an “I’m In.” In early December I’ll use a random number generator to choose a winner from all entries made by midnight (PST) on November 30 (or before I run it sometime the evening of the 1st.)

The winner will receive a BNIB BK-11 Becker Necker. Since no knife is complete without a light, you’ll also get my somewhat beat-up well-loved backup-EDC Thrunite Ti Firefly.

You need not be a BeckerHead. Open to US Residents who are over 18 and able to lawfully possess a fixed-blade knife of the Necker’s size.

Very awesome idea, TJ. I will be participating in this soon. I also think Kyle (aka averageiowaguy) should get an automatic entry for being over there with Team Rubicon. Great thread.
 
Let's get this thing moving....I'm in. This thread better not disappear onto page two!

Because AIG is there with Team Rubicon and I just found out I have another friend who's part of that group, I donated to them specifically for the Philippine disaster relief.

I get paid the 1st of the month, this ends on the 30th. Despite the GAW i think this is awesome of you to help encourage others to donate to something meaningful so i will indeed donate something when i get paid regardless of an entry in this GAW.

Also i think its worth mentioning that i would had never known of this thread if not for Granite pointing it out in the snark thread, so thanks granite.
 
Does it count if we donated to the typhoon relief before the contest started?
If so, I'm in. If not.. still a great contest!

Yes.

It took me the better part of a week to get this drafted. I'm not worried about the time frame - just trying to give a little incentive to encourage people to help others out.

WW - Not sure if it makes a difference, but the first is a Sunday. I'll probably run the generator late that evening. If you (or anyone else) gets in before I do, I'll honor it.

I forgot the 1st is a sunday, i should get paid early in that case, I will be in for sure then, thanks man, and thank you for such an awesome GAW, its sad there isnt more people getting in on this, even if you dont win the knife you win by helping people really in need.
 
I know it says open the US residents, but next week I will make a donation on Averageiowaguy's behalf, and if I win he is welcome to the giveaway, he and everyone involved with the whole situation are great people, and we need more of that in this world. I hope this is okay, tjswarbrick, on my word I will donate next week before the 30th and send you the details. My best friends' wife is Filipino, but she is lucky as she had no family in that area, but it is still very upsetting for her.
 
Not a contest entry.

I would like to thank everyone donating and promoting for this cause, and a big, BIG thanks to Team Rubicon and AIG for for halting their lives to go to a foreign country to help those in need. There are places in the impacted area that have had deplorable, subhuman living conditions BEFORE the storm; now it has made everything 1000x worse. Clothes, blankets, canned goods, water, privacy... all these things we take for granted are in dire need.

Thank you tjswarbrick for doing this contest, and thanks to everyone helping out.

I am in the middle of getting a meal for a family of four that cant afford Thanksgiving, an Angel tree kid, and helping out a homeless shelter with supplies they really need, but rarely get.
If I was not, I would be happy to make a donation to Red Cross or Team Rubicon, or something like that.

My wife, daughter and I are volunteering as part of my daughter's Girl Scout Troop collecting donated toys from Dollar Tree to Operation Homefront for Military Kids in need.

Coincidentally, my wife is on Team Rubicon as well.
