This may sound kind of weird, I don't own a khukuri, nor do I have a need for one. But I enjoy reading this forum almost everyday, because I really like the pix, and everyone is so positive and enthusiastic.

Well done all and thanks.

Hi Dave,
A most warm welcome to the forum. In most cases NEED has nothing to do with anything. With most Forumites here, we have long since past the point of "need". And the others here just like to have them 'em.

There are many reasons to collect knives in general, but this is just one form that collecting has taken. For the most part we're talking about one knife form and a hand full of makers. Just enjoy yourself.

Dave, welcome also. There really is something different about this forum. It's the people.
You always hear it said to go with substance over style. With this bunch, the substance *is* manifested in their style. What you see *is* what you get.

Congruence; Usefullness; and Luminosity.

Those were the three criteria for truth in William James. Somehow, these criteria keep popping up in answers to questions relating to khukuris ( that somehow transfer over into some pretty good stuff that's applicable to living life ). It's educational. Funny how people who keep looking for answers because they're aware they *don't* have all the answers seem to have the right answers at hand 95% of the time.

DaveH --- It seems you have been infected by HIKV/F ie. F for Forums. If you don't take early preventive measures ... I guess you are going to be infected by HIKV which is worst that HIKV/F infection!

Welcome Dave!

This is a great forum full of great folks, and is now all the better because you're in it. Have fun, but be careful---some late night when your defenses are down Uncle Bill will post "the Khukuri" of your dreams and "need" will fly out the window after a hearty push on the backside by "WANT"

Then you'll have to get another one to keep that one company, and another for that one etc....
But maybe not. Hey, guys maybe DaveH holds the key to curbing our HIKV! If he can hang out here and see all those beautiful khuks and not buy one then maybe he knows the secret

A big hearty welcome from me as well Dave!!!!

I had a thought after I had been in this forum a while that the khukuri could be as useful as any other style of knife. I have found the more I use them the more convienient they are to use and when picking up a straight blade it will sometimes feel a bit awkward. I am working toward both styles becoming equally comfortable to use with no adaption between the time.

Sooo, pull your chair a little closer and pick out a nice khukuri for yourself and join in the fun that way as well.
