For those of you who haven't had the honor of meeting Andy and the rest of the Fiddleback team in person, let me say that they are a class act. Recently, Andy allowed our boy scout troop, of which my son is a member, to conduct a composite merit badge class at his shop. Part of the class included him lecturing about the use of composites in his company, then he showed the boys how to re-scale Swiss army knives with micarta that he provided. What a great experience for all the boys and they came away with some great keepsakes. I didn't post any pics of the completed knives because the boys still have to do final shaping and finishing on the scales. And, of course, safety was paramount during the visit.

If you're considering purchasing a knife from Andy, I can tell you from first hand experience, that he is an awesome guy, and an eagle scout himself, and he cares very deeply about his craft and the product he turns out. Great job Andy, you really provided the boys with some memories that they will never forget.

Wish I did cool stuff like that when I was a scout I would have stuck with it.

Very cool of you Andy. We never did stuff like this when I was a scout either... :D

That is awesome. Nothing but respect for that. (didn't even know there WAS a Phenolic Resin merit badge!)

Very cool, Andy!

Man, I got such a kick out of doing this. When they asked me, I had exactly the project in mind. It is super easy to change the scales on a SAK. I even did a thread here detailing how to do it once. Takes about a half an hour. The boys were very well behaved, and not once did anyone have to be corrected for safety issues. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Andy,

You are the man! What a great experience for our future leaders! I like Fiddleback's even more, knowing they are designed and crafted by a fellow Eagle. :)

Rick Lowe just offered to help with our Scout Troop -- boy these knife guys are the best!

Who else here is an Eagle??? Who else here was a Scout??? How about currently working with Scouting???

Very,very, great and also refreshing.

I just clicked out of reading a thread about some insanity called "the knockout game" and, literally felt nauseous.

How great to sread that there is intelligent life amoonst our youth and those who devote time to encourage and develop these young people.

Kudos to you Andy and Jcoffman for your time and efforts.

I am a lifelong scout, still actively involved and my young 'un will be sure to follow.

BTW, great FBF t-shirt. They come in XXL?:D

I was a scout, but I didn't make it past tenderfoot. All the troop wanted to do was mountain bike (leaders son was into it). Cub scouts was where it was at, we had an awesome group and it was a democracy! haha

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY … not a lot of Scouting presence where I was … I was never a Scout, didn't even know what it was about.

I now live in the Hampton Roads / Tidewater Virginia area, and am very active in Scouting with my son. I am an ASM, and he's about to make Star.

Scouting people are some exceptional folks, and it is my great privilege to participate, and hopefully be a positive influence in the lives of our future leaders.

Great folks doing good things … kinda like knife people … !

Only made it to Scout rank, but my oldest is working on First Class, and my youngest is a Tenderfoot. Wife was the Cub Scout Packmaster and I am Committee member for Boy Scouts. The boys have really gotten to do a lot of cool things with our Troop. Good job Andy.
