There have been a few threads about the goings on down at the Blade show, but I wanted to start my own.

I am almost overwhelmed by the amount of help and encouragment I got down there at the show.

Every single maker I spoke with offered advice and an exchange of ideas/methods.

I probably bugged the heck out of fellas like Ron Newton, Mike Williams, Jerry Fisk, Bailey Bradshaw...oh man the list goes on...but they were all very cordial and very very helpful. Did I mention INSPIRING??? :)

I could go on and on, but I just wanted to put out a great big THANK YOU to all of you I got to meet and shoot the breeze with at the show.

THANKS!
Nick

Nick and everyone,

I have been meaning to post a thread about Nick's work. It is VERY clean work and priced way below it's quality. Nick is young by knifemaker standards, but his work shows maturity and a level of talent that will undoubtedly propel him as far in this business as he want's to go. He is "paying his dues" with his pricing, so jump on him now and get a knife ordered.

As usuall, the Blade show was great. It is my favorite show of the year and getting to see Danbo, Steve Freund and Gus K. makes it all that much better. Sales were good and I had a great show. Thanks to everyone who came by the table to visit.

Nick,

Call any time. It would be my pleasure to help you with whatever I can.

Nick; thanks but I was just hanging around your table trying to steal some ideas. We are gonna have to start breaking some fingers on these youngsters or they are gonna pass us like a T-bird around a pig. Really though, Nick; it was a pleasure to talk to you and see your fine work. Good show, great people. mw

Nick,
Your at the top of my list. Keep up the good work. No,let me rephrase that....get better and better!! Go where no knifemaker has gone before.

And thanks for letting me "Coon Finger" your knives. (an Arkansas phrase for getting finger prints all over your knives and not wiping them off)

Nick,
It is folks like you and the others who have posted in this thread that make the Blade Show much more than knives.
Gus

Danbo, you are lucky I did not skip town with all of them (on second thought na I would hate to be tracked down and cut :D).

It was nice to meet you, Nick.

And thanks Danbo and Bastid for not running off with all of Nick's knives. Now if I can only get Newton's smudges off that blade...

Nick is cool. I bought one of his knives at the ABS show in Reno. I know Nick did a lot of testing on 1084 heat treating. I was just starting to use 1084, so I thought it would be a good benchmark. I have been testing the knife hard for 6 months. It is great. From the edge holding, to the sheath, its super.

Dan, what you did with your journyman knives will come back to you 50 times over. Your a great guy; keep being unselfish and you will go far.

Nick, I'll say it again. The time I spent with you, Knight, Lombardo, and the next day with you and V. Evans, was two of the highlights of the show for me. YOU are a class act; I look forward to our future.

Darby

UHHHMMM Nick,

I noticed my contributions were pointedly left out.....
 .........:p :p

Tanya Begg

Hey Folks,

I was just thanking everybody, but THANKS AGAIN for all of the acolades! :)

For those of you not in the know, Tanya helped me out by watching my table and fa-nangling me a French knife magazine ;) Her husband Todd (a friend and local maker) is making some of the slickest integrals you'll find...if you get a chance, check them out! Your efforts didn't go unnoticed Tanya, I bought ironwood while I was out! And you just thought I got lost in the bathroom :o

Man, I was so frazzled from too many hours and too little sleep before the show that I actually almost didn't want to go...I'm SO GLAD I DID. The show was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. (Tanya, no comments on my sheltered life in Winlock and lack of experiences!!!! :p :p :p ).

Thanks!
Nick

Nick,

"no comments on my sheltered life in Winlock and lack of experiences!!!!"

what do I get for my silence....think sharp, cool, pointy things.

You also forgot to mention that that French Mag wants to do an article on you and feature you in an upcoming issue. Japan, France, the US you are international!!! ooolala

tanya

Nick,

Just have to say that I can throw your thoughts right back at you. Finally getting the chance to meet and talk to you was really one of the highlights of my trip. Really. We have had a lot of contact in the past and it was nice to finally get a little personal and to check out your work. I really love my little utility and I have to say while there most certainly are fancier knives in the world, I really don't think you can get a better one. It is certainly going to remain a favorite for many, many years. Thanks.

Tanya - was that you who almost got me to sell my car and buy that dagger to go with my fighter?

Regardless, I should point out that I really like what I've seen of Todd's work up on BladeGallery - very pleasing and unique designs!

Yes Wulf, I believe that was me......and if I remember, I almost had you talked into it!!!

Don't you think Nick owes me a knife or something??? Heck I almost sold the already sold ones!!! (oohh bet you don't like hearing that tho do ya?)

As for Todd's knives, thank you for your generous comments, the knives on bladgallery are the first to appear there and I am quite happy to see they sold immediatetly. Todd's got some REALLY cool stuff in the works...they all will be integrals....a bowie, couple of sub hilt fighters and last but most anxiously awaited for...FOLDERS. I think it is acceptable for me to say this....these new items are gonna ROCK!!!

Ok Nick, I'll let you off the hook.....something small and not too fancy will be ok.:D ;)
Before I forget, Nick, will you be at the Oct. show in Puy.? If so we are having a shin dig at our place sat. nite, your welcome to come, would be a great place to present me with my something.(I just don't give up do I??)

Tanya

Tanya - You mean Nick didn't let you leave with that dagger? That little token of appreciation would've been the least he could do... ;)

I'd love to see some more of Todd's work - especially the new projects you mentioned. Integral bowies and subhilts are very exciting, to say the least. Right now it seems like there are only a few who do that sort of thing (Ricardo Velarde, Dietmar Kressler, Wolfgang Dell, and Edmund Davidson are the only ones that come to mind right now) and I'm looking forward to seeing Todd's unique style applied to that theme. So stick around and post some pictures soon, OK? :)

Nick,

Your knives were awesome!

I cant wait till the "collaboration" is ready!

Oh yeah, don't mind Darby, he is just high-strung about knives! :)
