Just completing my very First chef's knife.
I was encouraged by a few members here on Bladeforums, and a few locals who liked a different knife, (but it shared some kitchen like features) to start making cooking knives.

I wanted to give back to my local community this year. It wasn't a good year for me, and I felt a little effort helps everyone, myself included, so I figured this was a good opportunity to try a few new things....

7" Nitro-V 63-64HRC
Handmade, freehand, hand ground edges.
weo weo gifted me a beautiful blank of stabilized maple burl. First time working with it. I enjoyed it and will want to do more of that. I feel it was easy to get good results. I'm Not a glossy, fancy, highly polished sort of fellow. I'm rough, and my blades are even worse....but This handle made me feel Pretty.... Haha.

I hope the new owners, the Winner of the raffle appreciates it just as much. The proceeds from the sold tickets are going to a charity to buy Christmas presents for local children who are less fortunate than us...

Thank You for looking at my work......Thanks.

Looks like you did a fine job…

Thanks..... I was surprised how much difficulty I had with the edge.
The steel was Sooooooooo Hard. Nothing would come off grinding. It took forever.
I had to walk away a few times, embarrassingly it took a couple days to get an edge.
:/

That’s a beauty. Would you make a 10” one?

This is a 9" blade I'm going to be making for a member here. 7" is a perfect balance at the pinch point

Honestly, I'm a little worried that it's (9");going to be fairly blade heavy.

I think a 10" would need thinner material?
Or, you will need strong arms....haha
I'm always ordering steel, so hit me up and I can order something.....

Update and learning lesson....

Wednesday was the Christmas Childrens Raffle at my work.

That preceding week employees were buying raffle tickets, and putting their names in the various boxes of the raffle prizes.
It was a record turnout. Lots of people excited, about this event. People happy, looking forward . And great way to start the holidays....Seemed to be going very well. Many people telling me they normally wouldn't be taking apart, but they liked my Chef's knife so much, and wanted to now.

We needed this. Employee moral has been seriously slipping over the last couple years since our last buyout.. different owners/corporate....bla bla bla. Well, Anyhow....

Morning of, I get to work. Just got to my desk.
HR pops up.
"We've got some bad news"
-they (corporate) pulled my donation last minute.
I wasn't able to do this.

From what I gathered. They gave back tickets to the employees to put them into the Other prizes.

*Long story short.... And I'll cut a bunch of workplace drama out of it... Idk how next week is going to go? There was more to this....but.

I was fortunate to take the proceeds and give them to a local humane society (same one we got our current pup) 100%
Good cause for the needy animals.

So, That part I feel good about. :0

That’s some BS. You should ask who all put their name in and do a non work related draw. :)

I just saw this on the front page and honestly don't know how I missed this thread.

I gotta' say, that's probably my favorite of all your offerings, thus far. Brother, that thing is GORGEOUS!

Well done!

Thank You, that means A lot.... Things are starting to Click, better for me with my builds.

I agree, this one was in my top few builds, so far.
Idk who I was making it for, so I put more effort, and more belts, and more cost into it.....Time.
Looks mattered More in this one

But, I agree it was worth it. It was Really Pretty.

Now I just gotta bump up my regular game...lol
