Thanks but stop me.
I lost an old Leatherman a couple years ago so I went on line to find a replacement. Never needing anything but the knife and pliers, since I only use it when I'm fishing. I found the Freestyle and Freestyle CX, which presented me with a new problem, I had never heard of 154CM. So I did a little searching which always brought me to this site. So thanks to this site I am the happy owner of a Freestyle CX.

I have a old Buck Lite I kept in the tackle box that I used as a bait cutter. Never cared for that knife. I liked 154CM so much I found a Gerber Gator with a drop point & plain edge with 154CM steel. Nothing fancy but hey it cuts bait.

So you would think I'd be good to go right.............wrong. For as long as I can remember (62 now) I've carried a small Buck Cadet and as often as not a 301 Stockman in my front pocket. Well the old Stockman has seen better days, so I got a replacement 301 but then I got to thinking. Wouldn't it be nice to have a stockman with 154CM blades. Couldn't find one, I'm going to have to jump allover Buck's back end about that issue. What I did find is that Queen Cutlery has some nice knives in D2.

So thanks to this great site I have a Queen Cutlery #9 Large Stockman and a 26ACSB Small Stockman. Both in Amber Bone and I Couldn't be happier. The D2 is a little slower to get re-profiled but once done it holds a working edge almost forever.

So since it's the fault of this site that I have spent money on new knives, not to mention the KME Diamond Sharpening kit. Before I become known as a KnifeNut. I need everyone here to convince me that I have no use for a Queen 63ACSB Railsplitter....... After all it's just a stockman on steroids right ............lol

Thanks, for a great site with more information about traditional folders, than anywhere else on the web.

Thought I'd take a picture before it becomes a user.

Resist the urge, man! How are you gonna give the #9 all the use it deserves if you can't decide which knife to carry that day? A good problem to have, to be sure, but still a problem. Get ONE drop dead gorgeous knife, and take care of it like it's the last one you'll ever have. Just my 2 cents, I've already WAYY blown my chance at 1 knife zen for myself. Good luck on your knife quest. May the money in your bank account grow back as fast as the hair on your non-dominant forearm :D

Well now that you have invested in the diamond sharpener for the D2, you need more D2 knives to maximize the benefit from your investment. That #63 is a pretty knife if you like the Queen brand and the D2 steel. So yeah, you should buy it, never know when you will run across a task requiring steroid-enhanced cutlery.

See, that's reverse psychology. I tell you to go ahead and buy it, and then you refuse to out of orneriness.

Get the Rail Splitter . I got one a month ago and it finds it's way into my pocket more than any other knife, I don't know why that should be cos I have a few now but to me it's a winner. Mind I have just ordered a #49 Cattle King to give it a little opposition.

We tend to be incorrigible enablers here, but I do try to keep my own pocket knife stable to a select few that I just really love and enjoy. I have 12 traditionals that I rotate, but 3 or 4 of them tend to see the majority of pocket time.

A fine, quality pocket knife is just something I really enjoy. I don't collect knives, but I do very much enjoy the several that I do have.

Good luck with your quest for The One, the Precious... It can be an elusive and endless endeavor!

The "One Knife" man I do very much admire. The guy who carries the One day in and day out for years, even decades! He is a monument to discipline and self-control! :)

Whatever you do, do NOT look at GEC knives or you'll be lost forever.

Gotta go, I'm in the middle of ordering a new GEC. ;)

And welcome to the forum!

You're all of you are a bunch of enablers for sure. :) I should have gone to knifeaholic anonymous for help.

I'm not in a quest for the one, since all I seem to use are buck stockmans. I tried a case stockman once even a case trapper but they got put back in a drawer and forgotten. There have been a two or three bucks that have been used to that point where they just weren't meant to be sharpened anymore. Then given away. That little cadet in the picture has been around since 1989, according to the date stamp and was never out of my pocket.

The Bucks are in retirement and the Queens just finished putting new fuel lines on an old mercury outboard. 15 hose clamps to redo that mess, so they are my official users now.
So I'm carrying the same type knives as always and have never needed more. So since I keep thinking about that Railsplitter and it's obvious I'll get no help resisting it here. I'm going to have to put it on my birthday wish list.

There goes my discipline and self-control right out the window.

I too love the Buck 30x Stockman series. Really hard to beat them. I picked up a couple in the yellow Delrin before they discontinued that handle material last year, a 303 and a 301. Got the 303 in my pocket right now. Buck sure does know how to get the most out of that 420HC steel. They pack a lot of value in those knives for the $30 price tag.

Here, let me help you out some. "You don't want that pretty Queen knife. You're just gonna use it and get it all dirtied up. Buy another Buck and put another 25 years on it." After all, there's a reason knives you don't use are called Safe QUEENs. ;)

Meanwhile, send me that Queen in the picture for safe storage and disposal, so you won't be tempted any further.

Since you like the buck 301 I should probably not tell that the buck collectors club has a 301 in BG-42 out right now with white micarta handles.

There are probably a few still available.:D

Don't look at me. I frickin' LOVE mine. For me it's as close to the perfect pattern as I have been able to find.

Frank, you are going to keep showing that Railsplitter, and make me end up buying one. I am going to tell my wife that it is all your fault. LOL. I really like the pattern, and I know one is in the future for me.

When you catch the knife bug, you intentionally spread it around to infect as many others as possible. Welcome to the infirmary where no one wants to be cured.

WOW. More enablers. :)

When I first found this site I was doing a search on 154CM and there's a lot of talk about newer so called super steels in the General knife discussion forum. I bought that gerbor gator as a bait knife, it's wet most of the day and covered in fish juice with nothing more than a splash in water to rinse it off. I do clean and oil it when it gets home but with over a years use it looks as good as new and holds a great edge.

So When I got the wild hair for a 154CM stockman, I was surprised that none of the manufactures had picked up on the steel. Either as a standard or a high end alternative. After all buck uses 420J2 on their 5 & dime knives, 420HC as their standard steel, why not 154CM as a high end stainless line. To me it makes more since than Chuck Buck's signature, at least on a working knife.

You think maybe I'm not traditional enough?

“Meanwhile, send me that Queen in the picture for safe storage and disposal, so you won't be tempted any further.”

Note to jc57 - If buck ever makes a stockman in154CM I'll make you a better than great deal on a used Queen so you can safely dispose of it for me. :)

If you want 154CM, then the Case/Bose collaboration knives use that steel. The ones currently available are the Wharncliffe Trapper model, and will run you about $450-ish. That's a little above my comfort zone, price wise.

Queen uses ATS-34 in some of their knives, including some of the Schatt and Morgan line. I am not aware of any stockman patterns though.

Case made a limited run of 250 Stockman knives in 154CM, their 6347 model, though that was maybe 2007 or so and they are fairly hard to find.

Case/Bose collaboration and only $450, let me think on that a sec............nope way to rich for my budget.
I really don;t think I'd be happy with anything but a stockman, they've worked to well for me for to long.
So far I've used the Queen to cut apples, cardboard, fuel line, marsh mellow sticks, unwanted branches sprouting out of tree trunks, and other day to day stuff. So far I'm very happy with the D2. It's almost stainless and holds a working edge very well.

Every once in a while AG Russell has a scout knife with 154cm blades and its a really nice looking little setup, been wanting one for myself for about 3 yrs, unfortunately we are now living in the golden age of knife production and there are so many other knives that have stolen my attention-if you are wise you will stop reading this now, because I am going to tell you the fact that you can usually sell your used knives for a decent price and if you are lucky(buying a limited edition ) you might even be able to make a few extra pesos.

Saying "stop me" here is wasting breath :D
So, if you're interested, there has been a run of Buck 301 in BG-42 steel (a SFO for the Buck collectors club, if I remember properly). Maybe you could track one down :)
