I've finished the scabbard for my YCS. Only difference from your procedure is that I've stitched the two tools scabbards to the back of the wooden core.
As Kydex seems to be almost impossible to get in Italy, I've used tetrapack (milk cartons)as liner for the tools scabbards with god results.

..I'm glad the recycling of milk packing cartons worked. In a pinch, I'll use just about any plastic as a liner for sheath or scabbard.
