Sal, you're a personable guy with a business model I respect, and your company thrives on innovation. These would all be reasons to admire Spyderco, but you go the extra mile.

Thanks for your support for our troops. It really means a lot. Thank you.

And thank YOU for your service, Spectre! May you come home safe, sound, and soon!

Thanks.

You know, the Native is just as good as I remember! I forgot it was so light. :)

John

Mr. Glesser, you are a class act. God bless you and God bless America.

Thanks so much for your service, Spectre. By the way, would love to hear about the various different ways you use your Spydie on a day-in-and-day-out basis.

Shucks, soldiers use knives like other people do- little tasks that need doing. The whole "kill the enemy with the naked blade" thing almost never happens, so soldiers need lightweight, sturdy knives that aren't too expensive.

I've probably cut more 550 cord and MRE packets with folders while in service than any other use. Then there's the favorite use for a soldier's knife- opening packages from home! :D

may I ask how often you sharpen your knife and what sharpener do you use while on duty there?

thanks,
rbc

A friend was supposed to send me one of the pocket diamond hones, but that hasn't happened yet. I've got a Arkansas stone en route.

At home, I use a Sharpmaker, of course. It can even be used on unconventional shapes like my kukuris.

I just got the Native, so I don't know how often I'll have to sharpen, but based on the typically light (and may it ever be!) tasking, I probably won't have to sharpen more than about once every three weeks or month.

Spectre--what restrictions, if any, do you have regarding the possession and use of non-issue tools, and tools that might be perceived as weapons?

John,

God bless you.

any restrictions on what can be sent to you?

If you want to email me I will gladly track down the sharpener you need and send it.

Thanks, everyone.

Tiz, we don't have a lot of restrictions, though I'm sure if the chain of command saw something that was over the top, they'd call on it. I have a 5" bladed fixed knife that one of my E-7s asked me to only wear when I have my "battle rattle" on. (I currently guard the perimeter of Camp Phoenix. I take off my armor and helmet when I'm below the level of the Hesco barriers that compose our wall. I had planned on mounting the knife on my IBA, but it wouldn't fit, so I just slid it on my belt.) He said it was "too conspicuous" when not wearing armor.

Tim, it can't go boom, be porn, drugs, or alcohol. Tobacco is allowed. I appreciate the offer, but how about I see how well the Arkansas stone works for me, first. :)

Hi Spectre, I hope your knife will give you years of service and I thank you for being out there for us. (PS Say Hi to any Brits you meet out there)

I have read a lot of posts on some forums complaining about Spyderco for loads of different reasons but THIS is why Spyderco are one of the best companies out there. They look after everyone so well, either their customers or serving personal.

Spectre,

Thank you for your service to this country. God Bless you. I wish you a safe time there and a safe trip home.
