I would like to thank George Tichbourne for several ideas he gave me that have worked out very well! It may have been several months ago so I will mention what they were...
First it was the rubberizing of the contact wheels. I had 2" aluminum plate laying around at work and George posted the durometer hardness and the type of serrations that worked best. The best part is that he made me aware that there are companies that do this type of thing! I gave the wheel blanks and the specifications to a company near me in Tampa and now I have 4 custom made contact wheels, the largest being 13" that work great! All for the cost of about $100!!!!!
Second was the cork polishing belts..... I have Hermes making me up some for my 108" grinders but in the interum I have aquired a 72" one that is working excellent on my small grinder. I am now mirror polishing my D2 blades!!!!! Anyone want to buy some buffing wheels????
With all the information that George and the other pro's here on the Forum generously share, I would like let you know that I appreciate it!
Neil

DR. I just bought a cork belt, but haven't used it yet. Do you put buffing compound on them, or are they already loaded with it? Thanks! Michael

Thanks for the vote of confidence Neil I do what I can to help.

That price for coating contact wheels sounds too good to be true I may be giving you an email shortly when I figure out what size idler wheel I need on my new grinder.

The cork belts will need a little break in before they get really good. I find that just about when you think that they are totally worn out they are just about perfect for fine finishing prior to mirror buffing.
The first one I got I nearly returned because I thought they had shipped me a 36 grit belt by mistake.

L6 the belt is coated with silicone carbide as it comes to you just add some green stainless steel compound to the face and you will see an immediate surface finish improvement, it will get better as the belt wears in.
