Are you kidding me? How can people giveaway a drop dead gorgeous knife like the doctor pattern Bulldog slipjoint (that Gus and Bastid donated for a contest in this forum)?
This is easily the prettiest slipjoint in my possession (my other two SJs being a J.B. Moore trapper and a Case stag whittler). The Bulldog's master blade has the earlier stamp of two fighting pit bulldogs above the words "Hand Made" on one side and is stamped "Hammer Forged, 1995, Solingen-Germany" on the other. The right side of the blade is engraved "BD 00." The action on the master blade is somewhat "balky" but the smaller pen blade sure can "walk and talk."
The attraction here is the celluloid (delrin?) scales. I don't know how to correctly describe it but it is a deep, deep, beautiful abalone-like swirl in reddish-brown medium. I'm not too familiar with the doctor pattern or with the brand but I found it unusual that the shield is positioned back toward the butt instead of up near the front bolster as with most other SJs. Also, this model does not have a rear bolster--so there'll be no pill busting by me with this knife. I'm really tempted to replace my EDC large Classic Sebenza for a few days with this SJ.
Oh, and did I forget to mention that the knife is "mint" as advertised by Bastid? Gus even over-nighted the knife by Airborne Express to me. Unbelievable!
Finally, thank you very much Gus and Bastid. I truly appreciate this wonderful gift. It's people like you two that make these forums educational, fun and worthwhile.
