Just wanted to say "thanks" for all of the great information here. I have finished reading all of the FAQ's and write ups you guys have done, as well as around 11 months of back-posts. I am by no means an expert, but I have learned a ton from you guys already. =)

My first Khuk (16.5 Chiruwa AK by Bura) has arrived here at work today! (I don't have it yet, I just got an email notice that it has arrived and will be delivered to my office later today)

I'm very excited to try my first Khuk out.

Thanks again for all your knowledge, and helping those of us that had never heard of a khukuri, to see the light. I am very excited to get it on the trails and see how she does for me.

Uncle Bill - You have been a pleasure to work with, extremely fast delivery, quick email responses, and putting up with my general "newness" to all this. =) I have no doubt that when I do actually recieve my khuk in a few hours that it will be perfect.

Humble thanks to all,

Verax

I probably didn't help at all, but I'm willing to partake in some of that kudos. :D

Thanks for stopping by. :) ;)

All of you guys helped out!

That's the thing, I am now hooked. I'm not just passing through now, I've found a new home. =)

I'll be around, and hopefully in the future able to help spread the Khuk mystique to some other new lad.

Let us know what you think of your new khuk. When you first open it and look at it and handle it. Then again when you actually get to use it.

RESTRAIN YOURSELF!!!

Especially if you work in a Post Office. People just won't understand your need to slice air, and threaten chairs.

DO NOT VOCALIZE WHILE SWINGING THE KHUK IN THE OFFICE!!!

"HAH !!" "HOOOH!!!" "AYI GORKHA!!!" are ALL inappropriate office sounds.

ENJOY. (Oh, and find band-aids before you open the box.)

No joke, I am sure it will be begging to sing through the air!

Worst part is I let the better half take the car today so I will be busing home. (I didnt expect such fast delivery) So I will be toting around a 16 inch blade in my backpack on public transportation. ;)

I found that a 16.5 khuk in the sheath sticks out of my backpack. Makes for easy access. :) Dont forget to wrap the pointy brass end with something. It tends to poke holes in things on occasion.

Ummmmm.....

I'm not up on Washington knife laws, but you might want to reconsider taking it on a bus. If you have a safe place in your office to lock things up, I'd leave it there. If you still want to take it on the bus, I'd retape the box very securely - so if you do have trouble, it will be difficult to argue that you were concealing a weapon for malicious purposes.

Further CYA measures:

Claim it is a Nepali meat cleaver, which it is. (for some reason, kitchen knives seem to be thought of differently)
Claim it is a piece of art, which it is.

IMHO, it's not worth a felony conviction (which, admitedly, would only happen if you were stopped, searched, pissed off the officer enough to run you in for something minor, and got really unlucky in court)

Yeah, I was planning on keeping it in the box. I'm sure I won't hit any trouble. Bus ride is only 15 minutes and have just a short walk from there.

I don't think anyone will even think twice about a guy with a box.

That, and I don't think there is any way that I could live this weekend knowing it was here waiting for me, and not being used in the back yard. ;)

First impression... wow!

The blade is much thicker than I thought it would be, has a great heavy, yet balanced feel to it. (you know, heavy if you turn it it's side, yet feels light if it is vertical)

The handle is perfect, the blade is near flawless, everything is perfect. This is probably the best $72.50 I have spent. I can already tell it will provide me years of faithfull service.

The leather sheath is a little dry, I'll put some montana pitch blend on her tonight and then she'll be at 100%.

So happy. Thanks Uncle bill! :)

Add a 1, 2 or 3 to the front of that number, and you still wouldn't be far off. Plus, for the price, you're not afraid to beat the tar out of it, as befits a good working blade.

Though I don't have as many khukuries as a lot of forumites, I do have quite a few (about a dozen from 13 ounces to 30 ounces) and the best all round khuk I own is the 16.5 inch chiruwa AK. It chops better than any others by a country mile (haven't yet tried my new M43)and when the grip is held in the Duvon way is very nearly as fast and balanced as the lighter ones (eg. my new M43 is beautiful but nowhere near as fast). I have a WWII on the way and I know Uncle Bill and Duvon have a preference for these so it will be interesting to compare, and then there is my 20 inch Sirupati in the mail from John Powell, and then there is the Mark II just bought on ebay - see what happens - you just keep buying more - welcome to HI - you poor @#!*^. Although all buys at HI are great buys, you have made an outstanding purchase - have fun.:D
