Once again, my daughter Kim was treated wonderfully at Blade. This is one of the few places I will let her roam at will with her wheelchair, unsupervised. (She is 25 years old and survivor of a massive head injury in a hit and run.) I advised her that if anyone had evil intentions toward her, there were a few thousand of her friends there with the means and the will to cut his throat.:D (There has to be lesson somewhere in the fact that the only places I will let her roam unattended are gun and knife shows, the places from which some would have us believe that all evil springs.)

The Busse people were all great toward her, as always.

We made our planned stops to see Bobby Branton (but he was away from his table. I think that she made it back to see him later), John Greco, Chris Reeve (whom we missed, but Kim had a good visit with his wife.) Mark Sentz had left before we could see him on Sunday.

She made lots of new friends as well. As she emptied her pockets on Friday night at the hotel, she came out with an Al Mar VG-10 Nomad. Seems she disclosed to the guys at the booth that her Birthday was the 19th of June, and they handed it to her as a gift. Later in the show, they approached me about an acquaintance that arranges hunting trips for the handicapped, and at their suggestion I will be contacting him.

Sunday morning I saw her talking to a guy who turned out to be Steve Davis. Seems that he met her at the 2005 show and went home and made a knife for her, but he did not see her in 2006. The knife was a beautiful little damascus neck knife with a leather sheath he also made.

In three Blade shows she has accumulated a Busse, a Branton/Brend, a Greco, the Al Mar, the Davis, and numerous caps and tee-shirts. She also has stuff show up in the mail: a Marine Corps cap, an Okuden sheath for her Busse, and a Busse three-finger knife from someone who remains anonymous.

I have to pay for my Blade loot. She just cruises around, makes friends and accumulates it.

Oh, she also bought me three Frost folders for my birthday (today) with her lunch money. Naturally I raved over them, too.:D

I was lucky enough to make it back to the table to see Kim. She had just finished giving my wife a neck and arm massage. Seeing Kim and family is always one of the highlights of my Blade Show experience.

Well, that was a real mood-lifter to read. Lotsa great folks in the knife community. Best wishes to Kim, and I know those Frosts mean more to you than just about any knife in your collection. And Happy Birthday!

Very cool! I have found people at gun and knife shows to be not only friendly, and funny people, but very thoughtful and caring as well. Not at all how the rest of the world views us "nutty" guys.

I took my daughter to a local knife show and she couldn't believe how nice the people were. The knife community as a whole has to be some of the greatest people around. Thanks all for letting me hang around.

That is great that you and Kim had such a GREAT show!! The knife community has some of the very BEST people on the planet!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mike!

Mrs. OP and I were honored to meet Kim. She's a real sweetheart -- easy to see why you're so proud.
