For the past few days (week +) I've been playing with my custom made clip point skinner made by Madpoet Mel Sorg!

Even better, I got to meet Mel when I picked up the piece.

I must say, his web page does not do justice to the fine work of his knives. Mine is a 5-inch D2 blade with his distinctive backside edging, finished with a whitetail stag handle bolstered with desert ironwood. Even Mel's leatherwork pouch sheath far exceeded expectations.

Blade,

Have you been doing any cutting with this knife? I got the Buckeye Burl Clip Point Skinner several months ago and still have not sharpened it despite using it to cut, and cut, and cut (hard kitchen use, wood, cardboard,...) It is one hell of a user

Thanks again Mel,

Waldo

Congratulations on the MadPoet.
I have three myself, including the two knife Camp Set. My 4" drop point utility has seen quite a bit of use and I haven't sharpened it yet either. (my wife started carrying it on her walks and even dug some wildflowers with it for transplant)
Mel is great to do business with and I should mention he makes a nice sheath too.

Yep Waldo, I've used it for a variety of cuts just to get the new-ness off it -- its still as sharp as the day I picked it up!

Guess its time to do some serious tests now, but quite frankly I'm already convinced this D2 will handle just about anything.

It will be interesting to see how it takes an edge!
