Well, many moons ago, I saw Todd Hunts "grunt" in one of the WSK posts, and I clearly stated, "I WANT IT"...or...at least try it out some!
Well, Murph came through, and sent it out to me a few weeks ago.
I haven't exactly been a teddy bear with this knife, in fact, I went ape shit crazy on it.
I don't know why, but it needed an "ass whoopin" and I caved.

Some of the things I notice..
first, the cons.
The saw is well cut, but needs a sharpening. What can I say, I build houses for a living, I like saws...Murph, let me sharpen this baby up for you, what do you say?
Second...while I am in NO WAY attempting to say Todd did anything but make a great knife here...I would loose the BK7 like hump between the handle and the edge...it gets in my way.
Other than that...
PROs:
The grinds were really good, and it cut wood like it should. The balance is great, and overall...I still want it.

Summary,
Am I going to shelf my Beckers and use the Grunt instead...Nah. But what a fun tool. I would in no way feel under knifed if this was all I had with me in a SHTF situation.

Here's a few test shots..

BK9 "kills" the tree, with no issues.

Yeah, I played with that a little while. It is a fun fun beast, I dunno as to whether I would want one...but it is definitely fun to handle. Aw, who am I kidding, LOL I would so take one. But it's big brother the M-18 (I like to think the M stands for MIGHTY) is the true HorrorBeast, that thing makes you happy to be alive just to hold it in your mitts!

I have seen the pics...I can imagine...I can ONLY imagine!

Steel type? I don't know. Carbon...maybe O-1. ...Murph can tell us that.
Thickness is 1/4".
Hefty, not heavy.
Actually, I put some micarta on it..it looked even better...but then my BK9 reached out an slapped me in the nose...so I quickly replaced his pants. Bloody tyrant.

Sorry, late to the table it seems. GKN, you're more than welcome! I always love the reaction our knives get and enjoy putting them in peoples' hands even more. As far as the saw, sure sharpen it up, you'll be using it. The steel is O1. Sorry I didn't have time to crank out a kydex sheath for her, leather will be fine I hope.

Gkn. Glad your havin fun with it. Haha. I've honestly tried to forget about that knife 1000 times. But its like the booger you can't flip off your finger! Don't worry about going easy on it. Beat the hell out of it. That's what's its for. When you get done with that if its possible you ought to have a chance to play with a real beast. The M-18. Once you do that, the only thing you'd use the grunt for is buttering biscuits!
