Well, many moons ago, I saw Todd Hunts "grunt" in one of the WSK posts, and I clearly stated, "I WANT IT"...or...at least try it out some!
Well, Murph came through, and sent it out to me a few weeks ago.
I haven't exactly been a teddy bear with this knife, in fact, I went ape shit crazy on it.
I don't know why, but it needed an "ass whoopin" and I caved.
Some of the things I notice..
first, the cons.
The saw is well cut, but needs a sharpening. What can I say, I build houses for a living, I like saws...Murph, let me sharpen this baby up for you, what do you say?
Second...while I am in NO WAY attempting to say Todd did anything but make a great knife here...I would loose the BK7 like hump between the handle and the edge...it gets in my way.
Other than that...
PROs:
The grinds were really good, and it cut wood like it should. The balance is great, and overall...I still want it.
Summary,
Am I going to shelf my Beckers and use the Grunt instead...Nah. But what a fun tool. I would in no way feel under knifed if this was all I had with me in a SHTF situation.
Here's a few test shots..
BK2 on the right branch of the "Y"
Grunt on the left branch.
BK9 "kills" the tree, with no issues.
