hey guys. i just wanted to say Thank You to my friends at SOG, publicly.

my wife recently sent 3 PowerLock MTs in for repair that i had abused on the job (contractor). we received a box yesterday containing all 3 units in perfect working condition with lots of new parts/hardware installed and a free gift that my wife swiped (a tool logic card of some sort). one of the tools, that we sent in, was so heavily abused that the pliers were snapped off from prying. we both assumed that one would be returned in pieces.

anyway, thanks again. i'll try to hang around here every now and then and tell some stories.

oh, if you're wondering why i have 3 PowerLocks, i don't. i have 5. they are, in my opinion, the best multitool available. i own all of the other major brand tools, but they don't fit my needs.

BTW, i am a former Marine Grunt (A 1/9, E 2/1) and in the mid 90's when everyone was carrying Gators i was carrying a SOG Magnadot that could not be destroyed. i still have it. i'll eventually get some photos up.

could you go more into what exactly makes this multitool better than others for your use?

SOG has always treated me well. The Power Lock is my favorite Multi tool and one I use almost every day.

Pics man, we want pics!! ;)

the Powerlock is a very simple but well engineered tool. the gear system allows a more powerful grip than any other MT that i have used. i have broken the handles and/or pliers on several leatherman MTs by trying to get a grip on a bolt/nut/screw/etc. the only leatherman i have not destroyed yet is the new supertool 300. it, coincidentally, is very similar in shape and size to the Powerlock. but, it doesn't grip like a SOG.

the knife in a multitool is not important to me. it is used for all the stuff that i don't want to do with my nice knives. the other tools are OK, but i am not impressed with any of the included tools from any of the manufacturers. i read other people's complaints about scissors on multitools. if you need scissors, get a swiss army knife. you can keep in the basket on the front of your pink bike.

i don't know, man. i like what i like. this tool works for me and it takes longer to break than all the others. it's strong, simple, and affordable.

I just got off the phone with Amanda at SOG and she was so nice and is sending me a replacement clip for my Vulcan. I called and left a message, she called me back within a few. Thanks Amanda.

I have a negative experience with SOGs customer service. I sent my Visionary 2 off on 02/24/2012 because the knife was very stiff to open. The knife can open smoothly but all of the top screws (including the pivot) would have to be loose. I got my knife back today from UPS. When I opened the box, I see the knife is laying on top of some packing paper all by itself. This ticked me off a little bit because I put the knife in the original SOG box when I shipped it. No, I did not just ship it in that box. I placed that box into a mailing envelop.

Long story short I open and close my knife and see that it is slightly easier to open but still cannot be closed with the use of the Arc-Lock. I have came to the conclusion that the SOG Visionary 2 has a major design flaw. The top T6 screw and pivot screw have to be loose in order for the Arc-Lock to be useful. I think SOG added some kind of loctite to the top T6 screws because they feel tighter.

Sense I have got my knife back I loosened the top T6 screw and pivot screw and now the knife opens fine. I will need to add loctite to the pivot screw in the near future due to it being loose. I emailed SOG waranty back in order to see if I can have my box back. I'm hopping to hear back from them tomorrow. I suppose I will update this post after I hear back from them.

Thanks

I did put the paper back in the box but this is what it looked like.
