Recently I have been learning a little bit about making websites and I am developing a healthy respect for those who design, implement and maintain large and busy websites like this.

Sparky, I'll be the first one to admit that I'm no techie and I have no idea how you do that voodoo that you do so well to keep this place up and running.

Yep, thanks Spark. Is the outage a resource problem? Would more paying members keep this sort of thing from happening in the future? If you need help with system administration, I'll volunteer for that, too.
