Been hanging around for a while figured I should at least say thanks for all the info I've picked up since joining. I first signed up to learn how to sharpen freehand, a lot of helpful threads, still need more practice but getting better. After getting an idea of how to sharpen, started to learn about quality knives. Use to carry cheap knives, now I've moved up to the 30 - 40 dollar range. I figured that was a good range to stay at, didn't see the need to spend any higher. Then I bought an izula for $60, i could have got it cheaper online but it was at a brick and mortar knife store and I thought I would give him my business. Now I'm looking to get a bk16 or an esee 4 can't quite decide yet. So much for staying in my 30 - 40 range. Anyways thought I would say hi and thanks.

Soon you'll notice the numbness...then your vision will blur. The headaches will begin and you'll begin to have impure knife thoughts....

Welcome!

I, too, was going to stay in the $40 range. I bought a Tenacious, RAT 1, and Kershaw Brawler, and thought that I was set.

Then I joined BladeForums.

Yeah.

$4,000 and 50+ knives later, I learned the meaning of addiction.

Yeah.

And then a friend gave me a $5,000 custom by maker Dietmar Kressler, doubling the value of my collection. Now I am stuck, saving money and spending it on knives, knives, and more knives, from custom makers, various manufacturers, and materials to make knives myself.

Yeah, you get the picture: GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!

spydercobenchmadekai has spoken the truth, but in this case, the truth will NOT set you free.
But, we're glad you are here with us. Misery loves company. :)

and...as Knivery says...The headaches will begin...and they have. How do I pay for these darned things?

I know. There's a CRK Seb 25 in the Exchange for $350, but I just blew $340 on a Polar Vortex AMS from Busse and $200 on two desert-tan Natives...:upset::numbness:

It's good to know there is a support group for my addiction.

If BladeForums is what you're refering to, you couldn't be more wrong. We're a bunch of enablers and addicts. There is nothing sadder than a bunch of knife addicts enabling eachother's addiction with pictures, reviews, and discussion.

:D

WHAT!?!?!?:confused::eek:

How did that happen? Did you do him a few solids in the past, or did he win the lottery or something?

Well, long story short, he's a cool guy. The money came from the oil biz. He collects customs by DFK; he has even commissioned pieces. He is an Eagle Scout, and when I made it to Eagle, he gifted it to me.

Here is a close up of the spine, showing the double edge, integral design, and tang taper:

Specs:
Blade length: 5 5/8 inches
Overall length: 9 3/8 inches
Blade/Bolster/Guard steel: RWL-34
Handle material: Presentation grade Sambar Stag

That's one heck of a gift man! At least you earned it. That thing it exceptionally beautiful, I would have a hard time using something that nice, 5k or not!

I just saw my old #9 in your photo. If I had known you had so many knives I would have sent it to someone else! Lol just kidding. :D

Very glad to have you here, brother. There was a time (early 1990's) when I first discovered Benchmade and Spyderco knives, and I thought $50 was a LOT for a knife, and that $100 was just crazy! Fast forward 20 years, and now I don't even flinch at dropping another $400 on another Sebenza:

Welcome to the Madness!

Lol, yes, but it's my only Opinel. I love it--others knives or not. The Opinel is surprisingly fun, sharp, and really light.

Thanks again!

And don't worry, that DFK is my only true safe queen. ;)

I agree sometimes you just need a no BS kind of knife. You take it out of the drawer you cut something with it, it cuts it well you put it back and thats that. The opinel is comfortable in this role. I feel like an idiot sometimes. With other folders I whip it out and just stare at it before cutting. And when I'm finished cutting I'll stare at it some more for no good reason. Lol.

Reminds me of when a girlfriend gave me an i-phone and doubled the re-sale value of my truck....

Welcome to the forums and your new addiction!
May your collection continue to grow and grow! :D
