My black/black canvas CG NMFBM has just landed! So I wanted to thank the Busse crew and Amy-0 in particular for bearing with me and all my stupid questions.
You all rule.
Now, when I got this thing from the customs, the guys at the customs were having some pretty good laughs about the Swine Shaving Sharpness Sheet, and testing the NMFBM's sharpness on it. Fortunately for them, I was on one of my better moods....
First impressions on the NMFBM: Wow. This thing is big. It makes an FFBM look small. But it is much lighter than it looks, and in fact I would bet money that it weighs less, not more, than an FFBM. So, I guess the guys who didn't buy one because they thought it was too heavy aren't too happy now!
It's about 0.23" thick with coating, although the NM treatment makes it a little tricky to measure. The handles are plain and simple the best big Busse handles I've ever seen. They fit my hands just right. But more importantly... this thing hits like a battle axe. I don't see how a chopper knife could get any better than this without getting too long - although it could be fatter and still be controllable in hand.
With all the recent hoopla at the forums over sharpness and fit and finish and what not... This CG NMFBM came sharp. Sharp enough to effortlessly slice paper, but not sharp enough to pop off hairs. Or in other words, it came with a good working edge for a chopper. Very satisfied. Rest of the blade is finished like Busses typically are in my experience, with no problems that affect performance. There are no hotspots on the handle or anything like that. The Busse logo for some reason looks 'stronger' than ever, in lack of a better word. It seems larger, clearer and brighter than on my other Busses. Nice touch. Only fit and finish issue that I can identify is that the right side handle scale is a little off horizontally, but that has no bearing on performance and it's going to be a user, so I don't care.
And Amy was cheating when she said it would take 8 - 12 weeks to get here. It took more like 5.
I'll say that these things are going to end up selling for a lot of money at the exchange. If there is an Ultimate Busse, I would think the NMFBM LE would be it.
Here are some photos - better than usual, because they're not taken by me...
