Just a quick note to say how much I appreciate the information and expertise offered in Bladeforums. I recently bought a 2x72 grinder and made some modifications, pretty much all based on information I got here. So thank you!

I got a grinder from The Belt Grinder, it is very well made. I added a hinge so it can be used both vertically and horizontally. I made a 8x24 table for vertical operation and a 6x18 table for horizontal.

My girls have been after me to make them some handmade kitchen knives since I retired so that is what this is about. What better reason to get a new tool.

Sorry cannot figure how to post photos.

I agree with how unbelievably useful this forum and its members have been for me as a newb.

That's a really cool take on a horizontal mount! I did something similar after seeing a forum member do it. I like your huge work rests too.

I got a grinder from The Belt Grinder.

I've been interested in that grinder since seeing him on ebay a few years ago. They seem to have really increased production recently and increased their social media presence. At the time, his prices were pretty good for what looks like a CNC'd product. I don't know how his prices are now. The tooling arm size seemed non-standard, if I recall.

How did you decide on that grinder vs others?

I spent a couple months researching these grinders on the internet. Narrowed the possibilities down to maybe 5. Of those, this outfit seemed to me to offer the best deal on cost and quality. It is a roll of the dice but I have been impressed with the quality of the build and the performance of the machine. Still early days. I got the grinder-only, for $700. Got the motor and controller separately.
