Thought I should post this in the forum as well for all to hear and share...

Big thanks to Dan for doing a fabulous convex edge and satin finish on my M43. Great job! Thanks! Not only do I feel like my M43 is finally sharp and has a weapony feel to it, I feel like I have a completely brand new knife! The blade is now more angular, looks even more like the authentic M43s and has a sharklike feel to it. The balance is closer to the handle now and feels more lively and is ready to bite. I am very impressed and happy. Dan even took the time to make a sheath for the knife and the shealth even includes a pouch for the chakra and karda, when he sent it back! :D

I'm glad its gonna be with me this weekend when I go out on a camping trip...I think I might be the only guy with some real steel, so I might snag a few more customers for Uncle ;)

Thanks again Dan!

Will post pictures later...

For Dan's a jolly good fellow,
For Dam's a jolly good fellow,
For Dan's a jolly good fellow!

Three cheers for DanDamDan!

I thought Dam was banned after he banned Bruise after someone paypalled $20 to someone else.

I am so confused.

Chris - glad you got it ok. (even more glad you like it...:D)

It was fun making the lil' sheath. Didn't take long. With most every knife order, I use the knife to make the box. This time, though, I used the karda to make the sheath. I figured since you sent it to me nekkid.....you wouldn't mind if I put a few clothes on it before sending it back...:D :o

Enjoy the weekend camping!

return from your adventure? How'd it go?

camping trip was alright... ;) Too many attentionwhore guys and not enough manly men...but I suppose thats what happens when its a co-ed trip and hormones are raging...

I got to use the khukuri to split some wood blocks (salvaged from a freshly taken down patio) and the blade and edge retention held up admirably. Even though it scuffed up the finish a bit, but I have some 600, 800, 1200, and 1500 grit carbide paper than I can use to refinish it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but steel is suppose to be harder than plastic right? I noticed that part of the edge deformed when we went setting up tents and trying to hammer plastic nails in the ground to secure the tents...there was only one hammer, so I whipped our my M43 and used the flat to pound plastic nails. However, when I took a look at it afterwards, I noticed part of the edge had rolled! This was before I split any wood and even if I am mistaken about this timeline, the part of the edge that rolled is 4-5 inches away from the belly of the blade, far away from the optimal contact points, and there are no scuff marks on the blade surface immediately above the edge rolls....
Kumar must have made a heat treat mistake? As also, before I send it to Dan for refinish, there were small edge rolls in the same edge area...

Is the part of the edge that deformed inside the curve, close to the cho? If so the it wasn't a mistake on Kumar's part, that portion of the edge is intentionally left soft. Although for it to deform on plastic is a little odd; I'm sure Dan can tell you more when he gets a chance to look at it.

I think he meant to type "sent" instead of "send". As in "before I sent it", it had deformation in the same area.

Yes, I don't like sharpening it there and wouldn't if it didn't make the knife look crappy....so I put a convex edge on the entire thing and just hope that the recurve won't see much action.

Good news is, Chris, that if it bent out of shape as you described....it can be bent back rather easily. ;)

Oops, Dan is right, I had meant to type "before I sent".

These rolls are near the center of the blade, but an inch or two on the side closer to the handle. I had rolled a bit of the blade in the same exact area when I lost my can opener and decided to use the M43 to open a can of veggie...don't ask me how I did it and still kept my finger to type...but doing that was what first rolled the edge. Did you notice a couple of rolls and something of a small dent when you got it, Dan? The new convex edge removed these rolls, but that they popped up again in the same area, against plastic strongly suggests a flaw. However, since its towards the recurve and not the belly, it aint a biggie, barely noticeable.

Use the spine to pound stakes. Dunno... I find it better for bashing things. Dunno about the rolled edge though. I don't think it should have bent but stranger things have happened.

I used the flat of the blade, so part of the edge might have come into contact if I was off center. Well, I did think about using hte spine, but due to the extreme curvature of a M43 and its wide blade, the flat seemed like a better idea.
