I've been meaning to make this thread for a while, but time has gotten away from me. I recently started a new job, at around 40 hours a week, so time is something that I have not yet been able to properly organize. I won a bk11 from Moose during one of the holiday contests. I started my job on the seventh, and by the ninth, the knife was outside my door when I woke up. Initial thoughts on the knife were very good. I was pleasantly surprised by just how comfortable the handle was. Here are some pictures.

My brother didn't feel comfortable with his name on here, or with me saying where he is going, though his wife told me that I could tell you he is going overseas. So, on Christmas, a few days after winning the contest, I asked my brother if he had yet selected a smaller knife to take with him, as he was already planning on taking his bk7. He told me that he was probably just going to pick up one of the smaller Beckers, as he really liked my bk14. I told him that I had won a contest here in the Becker subforum, and that I would gladly give it to him. I figured if he can save some money, than that would be for the best. He thanked me, and I told him that I would get it to him the next time I saw him. When I received the bk11, I knew that it was fate for him to have it. He had been wanting one since Camillus made Beckers, and I knew it was right to give it to him. Having recently started a job, I hadn't gotten a paycheck, so I was unable to go see him. I got my first paycheck last weekend, and my parents informed me that we were going to be having a party for him during the playoffs, since he wouldn't be here for the SuperBowl. He ended up getting ill, so I just went over to his house and gave it to him there. He was extremely happy with the bk11, and told me that it was exactly what he was looking for. I ended up putting a gutted paracord wrap on the knife so that it would be a bit more comfortable for him while keeping it streamlined, as he has larger hands than I do.

I just want to thank Ethan Becker for making these great knives, and Moose for his great generosity, without which this wouldn't have been possible. Thank you both, from the bottom of my heart. I greatly appreciate all that you have done for me, for this forum, and for the entire knife world.

Yar. Tell him we said to come home safe.

Moose

Congrats on being a good brother! Also, thank your brother for his service.

Good deeds followed by more good deeds. Great stuff guys and thanks for taking the time to fill us in and snap some pic's. Hopefully the blade will come in handy wherever he is going ;)

My brother says that he appreciates it. He also said your knife (the bk11) will see some consistent real world use and that his larger knife will be a camillus bk7.
Thanks so much, Ethan, and everyone.

Awesome thread, MJ. Very cool of you. Thank your brother for me too, please.

I will let him know, and I'm certain he appreciates all of the well wishes. I told him about the thread, but I don't know if he'll be checking it due to a lack of time before he leaves.

very good on the new BK11 - have not seen one yet but good to know it's there

Thanks for all of the well wishes; I'll make sure he knows. On a side note, I plan on eventually getting another bk11, and hopefully a bk15 at some point. Knife funds are nonexistent at the moment, but by summer I should be able to afford at least a couple more Beckers.

Sorry to bring up a dead post, but in this case I don't find it so inappropiate. I'm the fat looking recipient of the knife in the original post. (Wasn't any point passing up good food before a deployment, and I dropped the weight within six weeks.) I've been very pleased with this knife, so having the chance I thought I'd get online and say so. I created an account when my brother told me where he had posted this.
I have found the knife I was given to be very useful, well designed, and quite comfortable, due to the cord wrap my brother did to it. Many people have the wrong impression of what is usually needed in a military knife. They bring a knife that's too big to carry comfortably, get tired of it getting caught on other gear, being in the way, getting caught when getting in and out of vehicles, and end up not carrying it and therefore not having a knife when they need things cut. Or they bring a combat knife but no smaller knife, then end up dulling their combat knife and nullifying its effectiveness as a cutting tool. Don't get me wrong, I still have my big boy knife, but I do 99% of my cutting between this BK11 and my Gen 4 Spyderco Endura. I don't dull the edge of my bigger knife that way, and I'm able to use the BK11/Spyderco indiscriminately since the blades are small enough to sharpen easy and quickly enough that I don't care how often I dull it. I'd like to thank everyone for their support, and I hope the best for all of you. I'll be posting again in the future.

That's awesome man. It's so cool to hear about Becker's being used overseas by our military guys.

Thank you for your service.

Take care and be safe over there, Oh, and welcome to the forum. Hope to see you around here more and see some pics of your blades in action!

Thanks for your service and best wishes to you. My dad used to say the same thing of his deployments inthe Marine Corps. Many of his guys brought these large "tatical" fixed blade knives with them. At some point they would get tired of carrying them and left them in their lockers. So when they really needed a good knife, they did not have it in them. My dad carried his USMC Ka-Bar and a small swiss army knife. To me it is too small to even carry. He said it was the best piece of gear he ever had. The little one with the tweezers, tooth pick, nail file, scissors and small blade. I would bet you a million dollars it is in his pocket right now.

Take care and stay safe, bro. I hope the 17 makes it's way to you soon; I dropped it off 2 weeks ago so they could send it.
