I had two beautiful damascus knives made by Fred Rowe of Bethel Ridge Forge, an 11-1/2" long clip point bowie and a 9-1/2" dagger; both with scrimshawed white tail deer crows and a one of a kind spearpoint bowie with deer crown and buckeye burl handle by Mike Stewart of Bark River Knife and Tool. All three of the knives did not have sheaths...figure out where I am going with this? No? Well I talked to my friend, gentleman, and extraordinary sheathmaker, HELMAR, aka Sandy Morrissey. Today I received a big box from Sandy and well hey WOW, WOW, THEY ARE AWESOME!!!! Thank you all guys, but especially thank you Sandy. I hope my pictures may do a little justice to the art work that you have done with several pieces of leather, some thread, and many years of skill.

Removable frog on all three sheaths; this one and the Bark River snap on while the other is a nifty lace up job!

The stiffener on this sheath parrots the shape of the blade.

Sandy's comments: "The 11-1/2" bladed beauty is made of 7/8 oz. cowhide and carved in a serpentine type scroll that appears to be an overlay over stingray skin which is a simulation tooling background...The dagger...is my representation of English Engraving with a matted backgrou and is high lited which gives a deeper three dimensional effect." I'll say!!!

Thank you Fred, Mike, and especially you Sandy!

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING !!!!

Sandy managed to match each blades personality with the new sheaths he created. And they are some of the most spectacular I've ever seen. Just amazing pairings. Congrats! :)

Not many things compare to, or complement a knife like a well tooled sheath, you have two fine examples. Not that the plain leather is not nice, it is, but...it's not tooled. Thanks for sharing. Preston

Preston, sometimes beauty is in simplicity.

Tim. I agree...and, also in the eye of the beholder:). Best to you. Preston

The incredible workmanship is only a quarter of the value. Talking, writing, conversing with Sandy is one of those "Boy, do I admire this guy.." moments.

None better. Good call.

Coop,

You are so right. I spoke with Sandy the other night for about 20 minutes. Not only is he a premier sheath maker, he is one fine gentleman. A true pleasure to know and to talk with. Now all I have to figure out is how to get away with wearing one of them on my duty belt; somehow I don't Customs would allow me to do that!

Thanks, all, for increasing my hat size. I got that little gem from my good friend, Chuck Burrows, after he had received compliments! Where can I find a size 15 Stetson? ---Sandy---
