Arrowed my first deer sunday, about 25 yards, both lungs. She kicked, jumped and went crashing down the hill. That was that. Next week I'll have my 11 year old son with his crossbow, hope he has the same experience, he's been practicing a lot.
Used the Scrap Max 340 I got in trade from one of the Hogs here. Don't want to get too gory, but Whoa! nice edge, Beef! Thank you. My first time field dressing a deer, I think it only took me about 15 minutes. Thanks again,

Post more pics, a bunch of walking dead fans on here, we don't mind a lil blood.

Either way looks like a good time. Bonne appetite!

Thanks, can't wait to pick the meat up from the butcher. Smoked Venison Keilbasa!
Yea, about the pics, left the camera behind when I left the house at 4:00 am. Hunting solo, if I took any more 'in-progress' pics my phone would have been covered in blood.

Thanks, popped my cherry last year on a coyote. He was a much tougher shot, but it's a lot different when you can eat what you kill.

Congrats on a successful hunt . Nothing beter than to eat what you hunt.

Nice! All the way around

Taking game is exhilarating, but there is nothing better than up close and personal

Please give us some details. How did it slice? What did your hand feel like? How sharp was is after? Did you experience any staining or damage to the edge? I have one of those 340's and have only managed to cut open some letters and bagels. My 340 was also shapened by BEEF and it cuts like a laser! I want to know how it does on some real outdoor tasks but I havent been well enough to do it myself. If you get some free time, please fill us in on some of the juicy details. Thanks

Congrats! Did you use it to go through the rib cage too? If so how sharp was it after? Inquiring Busse hunters want to know.

Right, details. Well my first thought was to use my CABSLE to do the heavier work and save the Max for the finer stuff inside. You know that thin Elmax looks so,.. thin. But, I was lazy and didn't want to clean two knives before I dragged her out. The Max worked great, start to finish. Sliced through the hide so easy I found I could control the depth of the cut, (no sign of dulling from the hair). I mean when I wanted to cut clean to bone, at the sternum or pelvis, just a little more pressure. When I worried about making a mess in the abdominal cavity, just a little less pressure. Slices perfect, I was very impressed with the level of control it provided.

Messer, I didn't cut the rib cage, glad I didn't, I think the drag out would have been tougher and she might have filled with debris. It was too warm to drag her out intact, I wanted to get the meat cool. Since I left the chest intact I had to get both hands deep into the ribcage to cut away the heart, lungs, trachea and any other connective tissue. Kind of the same thing at the southern end. With most of the gut pile out and down hill from the body, I cut the away the entrails from the lower intestine close to the exit. Reaching in with the blade, I used a kind of 'core-the-apple' circular move inside the pelvic girdle. Two rotations around, one clockwise, then one counterclockwise and the last bits came right out by the tail.

The Res-C handle is perfect, fills my hand but small enough to maneuver inside, easy to index the edge, not slippery despite the bloody mess and latex gloves. Cleaned up pretty easy in the field, I used a couple of wipes to remove the blood and fat that stuck on the blade, and put it back in the great crossdraw sheath Azwelke made for me.
After I got home and cleaned it thoroughly I was still very impressed at how sharp it was. I didn't try to slice paper, just tested it by shaving along my thumbnail. It seemed sharp enough, even with all that scraping against bone. I spent some time working on it at my Wicked Edge sharpener, just because I like to. Probably the same reason I wash my Harley after a good ride.
I'm sure you guys understand.

Season's not over until late February. If I score again I promise more pics.

Cool thanks for the details. Hope to head out this weekend myself with my Anorexic Basic 4 and 375. If I get one the Basic 4 is getting tested on the rib cage and pelvis.

Nice. I was worried it might be a little small. I just got one here and an azwelke sheath in bound for a friend of mine. Maybe I can pop some hogs on his ranch and use my B4.

Thanks guys, I just got back from the butcher.
.....Jaeger Schnitzel! Wow!
DeadEye; that must be a great friend. Of course, same for you.
